Some people wake up as they orgasm, some never do. One thing is for sure, that youll wake up with wet underwear. There isnt really a way to induce it other than not masturbating as you said.

just so you know, there is no proven connection between abstaining and wet dreams. some people have them, and some people don't. I don't think there is a way to induce one. i've had them and it's usually not fun waking up in the morning with cum soaked boxers

Wet dreams is your body's way of doing a reproductive system check. For me, it only happens when "inactive" for at least a week or two. If you are sexually active(masturbation included) you are less likely do have one because you are doing the job yourself.
