I guess I don't see much wrong with a guys dad explaining what jerking off is and how to do it, but I feel like that would be extremely awkward for both the son and the dad. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm sure most guys just figured it out on their own or a friend told me about it/how to do it. I just figured it out on my own. I'm sure my dad knows I jerk off, but my dad would never bring it up to me or anything like that.

I'll give my own perspective on this, I have never had a real father figure in my life, my mom broke up with him before I was born because he wanted an abortion. It is very natural and it is an instinct at a certain age, particularly 6 - 8 (according to Freud) for males to begin exploring themselves. After that Freud does not really explain the next stage but he does state the unexplained stage the final stage is that most of males focus is on the genitals.

So in short, it is very natural and should not need to be taught. As for learning about puberty most boys are uncomfortable with their parents talking to them about it and would rather here it from a sibling or someone that they can relate to, such as a mentor, older friend, or sometimes even a babysitter (if of the same sex)

When I was 13, my dad gave me "the talk". He also told me that the internet had plenty of websites about puberty, if I had any other questions.

I'm sure he knows by now that I pound my pud, but we don't talk about it.
