View Full Version : Every time I look

Every time I look at my wrist it looks like I see the cuts I made a year ago. So last year I had a bad day, so I tried cutting. To my mistake it hurt (was told it doesn't hurt). Since then I never forgot what happened. So when the cuts healed, their was a small scar. Every time I look at my wrist, I see those scars and it makes me sad and depressed that I went that far. Why do I feel like this and why can't I just forget about it? It causes me pain every time I think about it?

I feel the same way every-time I look at my scars as-well.
As to why you feel like that, it's probably because it reminds of the emotional pain you felt that day and what you tried to make the pain go away. To make a negative into a positive try to take pride in the fact you stopped afterward and didn't continue with cutting. It can be an addicting behaviour. As to trying to forget about it, it will take some time no doubt and eventually the memory may fade as memories do.
Hope this was helpful.
side-note: In my experience cutting hurts the first time. It usually stops hurting when you continue to do it. Still not worth it though.

Well, you now know that it was wrong. Luckily you didn't get hooked. Just know that you made a mistake, bud. And that you can move on.

You need to try and stick with the fact that you didn't choose to try it again and have now realised that it's not worth it. Don't dwell on the tiny white mark on your arm because it's just dragging your mind back to that time. When you think about it think about all the things you can do now because you don't cut swimming, short sleeves, no extra paranoia. You could also wear a band round your wrist so you can't see it but I don't know if for you, that would just drag more attention to it?
I think you just need time to move on, like Raging_Spirit said, memories always fade or at least tend to get weaker, if you try to get past it maybe by writing down what you felt or a poem would help since it could be weight lifted off your shouders.

reminders are horrible. But sometimes you have to live with them, you're stronger than you think you are, most people are. Just think of the pain you went through the first time.. was it really worth it? I guess not....
If the scars bother you, they're only from cuts so shouldn't be over massive, I've never tried them myself, but I hear they work, you could try buying one of the creams that help reduce the appearance of scars.. though they do come at a cost :S
Hope I helped.
