Core2 vs. i5

My dad just ordered me a MacBook pro, as an early birthday present :D
It's a refurbished Core 2 Duo model, 2.4 ghz. I know that theres the new i5 and i7 chips in the MacBooks now, but is there a significant difference between the Core2 and the i5? As in performance wise?

Yes there is a big diffrence between a I5 and core duo.But my experiance is with Dell lap tops so i could be wrong but i doubt it alot

Yes, i5 and core 2 duo are very different. VERY VERY different. i5 is capable of running a 3d computer and 3d games, so i5 is much faster.

Clearly the answer is yes! And in some cases (i haven't really bothered checking to be honest), getting an i3, i5, i7 is cheaper than the equivalent Duo Core CPU.

Ya there's a huge difference

My Inspiron 1525 has a 2.0 Dual Core and that was decent but now I have an XPS 15 L502x 2nd Gen i7 2.4, and the speed difference is unreal. I can imagine an i5 would be powerful as well.

No, they are called i5 and i7 for a reason. i7 is mainly focused towards high end perfomance laptops / desktops, and i7 version 2 (forgot the name) is focused towards high end gaming laptops / desktops. i5 is not as fast as i7, however, the difference to humans is slim.

i3=4 processors
i5=6 processors
i7=8 processors

I was just trying to say that going from a Duo to a i7 was a huge difference in terms of speed, so I'm more than certain an i5 would also have improved speed as opposed to the Duo, since it's a slight downgrade from an i7.

Actually, I researched a little bit, and the only difference between the Core
Line is hyper threading, which the i5 doesn't have.

Actually, my MacBook Pro came early. The Core 2 Duo runs perfectly, much faster than my older computer :)
