So I've heard a few people mention rock bands, and when they mentioned stairway to heaven I've heard that the song reversed is a tribute to Satan. Do you believe it is?

You see, this is why we can't have really serious debates in ROTW anymore.

nice input and i am glad you contributed to the topic. i will remember this forever.
but, OP, i heard nothing in the backwards lyrics.
And, no, I did not create this to show the evils of Rock and Roll. Basically it boils down to this:
The reverse files sound cool.

there are a lot of songs that tell another message when played backwards. we learned this in Psychology class. maybe there's an underlying meaning...like the singer or whatever it telling us something. but honestly, I voted no for this poll

Is that honestly real though? I might be wrong but I can't see how that fits.
Urm No, I don't think it was intended and.. wow im just thinking why the hell would someone even try playing it backwards? The song is made forward so listen to it forward.

It's not even real. How do they get "666" out of any part of that song?

People hear and see what they want to see at times. Reminds me much of this -

A tribute? no...but maybe a warning...who knows...maybe they did it to freak people out who are crazy enough to find it. I think it was kinda cool when i first heard it though haha

DOGSINATAS.
That's "Satan is god" spelled backwards.
Did that influence you before I told you what it was?
No. Exactly.
It's ridiculous to think that it would influence people even if it WAS.
Which it's not. Do you have any idea how hard it is to write something that makes sense forward and backwards at the same time?

I know this thread is mostly about the backwards version of the song, but in regards to the meaning of the actual song: I interpret the song as telling the story of some filthy rich person, who, throughout all their life, has believed that money and riches are the key to all the world has to offer, but is now realizing that the one thing that they can't buy their way into is heaven
In regards to the actual question, I highly doubt that Robert Plant actually put any deep thought into how his lyrics would sound played backwards.
For some reason, this whole thing reminds me of that episode of SNL when the Devil (played by Will Ferrell) appears to a struggling musician and offers to teach him to play an epic song in exchange for his soul, but all the songs he comes up with for the guy are just lame crap.

If you play any song backwards, somebody is going to say that there is an evil message contained in it. Search for your favourite televison show's theme song from when you were younger played backwards. I can almost guarantee you there will be somebody who has an "evil" interpretation of it.
In all honesty, the song-played-backwards fad is kind of getting redundant. I agree with Matt -- we cannot have serious debates here anymore with this kind of irrelevant(IMHO) info.
