His family is really, really hard headed so I don't know if he's scared to come out, but I wanna help him. I don't wanna mess up my friendship with him by asking any questions...

Ask him about what he thinks of gays and all that. Make it seem like you don't know to much of it, but if he knows your gay then he will say something nice. But if he thinks your straight hell say the truth. Make it seem like your ok with gays and stuff like that, then ask him. But say that you think is their decision and you have nothing against it.

Okay, so. You should probably talk with him, but do not just ask him if he is gay. Ask him something along the lines of "Hey, you know how your parents are kind of strict? If we switched places, do you think they would criticize me about being gay?"

Of course, only do this if he knows you're gay. If not, then you will have tu!o find more of an indirect approach, like asking him his feelings on gay relationships.

I think before even approaching the "gay" question, you should hang out with him more and gain his trust as if you guys were best friends (if you're not bf's already). That way he could let his guard down and talk to you freely about anything and everything, but you just can't pressure him to talk about something he may feel uncomfortable to talk about now or if he knows your gay, you shouldn't also give your opinion about his sexuality either. Let things unfold naturally and just be there for him if he ever needs to talk to someone even if it's just about stupid things, but that's how he's going to start trusting you more and more. as every1 else has already stated, just make sure he knows ur gay and that u have a strong friendship, then just bring it up, ask him to be honest, and then just try and be subtle and gentle
