View Full Version : A question about being gay

I don't want to come off rude or anything, I am just curious to know.
I understand that finding out how some one is gay is a controversy. Many people feel you are born that way and others think it's a choice.
I would not be surprised if this has come up before.
I am just wondering for those here who are gay and know it etc...
What is your story? Do agree with one theory or the other?
I just want to get the other side of it because i am pretty sure I do not know anyone in real life who is gay that I am close to.
Plus I am in a family where being gay is seen as "wrong." and I am stuck in the middle of understanding the other side.
Thanks for your time!! :)

I am bisexual and I don't believe that it is a choice as many gays initially despise or are ashamed of the fact that they are aroused by those of the same sex. I don't believe that I was born bisexual as that means that every baby and infant has a fixed sexuality. I am of the opinion that we are born without a sexual orientation and that our very early years shape our sexuality.
But, it is impossible to raise a child "straight" or to raise a child "gay" - you need no more evidence than straight parents and gay offspring for this.

Good question!
I'm gay and there might be a way to be influenced to be gay, but a lot would disagree with me and I'll just leave it at that. (it's not to be exploited).
If anything, I think it's more of being born gay, although I'm about half and half when it comes to being born a sexual orientation or having it develop. There's no way to tell and not much more to say, but I'm good at arguing this :D
what the?

This is an interesting point. Personally, I pretty much always knew I was gay. I never felt the same, but at the time, I neither understood nor could comprehend the consequences of what I was feeling. It wasn't until I was about 13 that I started to come to terms with my sexuality. I believe that is a combination of genetics, and early life experiences that contribute to ones sexuality. I believe that your genetic make up can make you more susceptible to becoming gay, so events in your early life have a greater effect on you than they might on another person. A study has shown that a man is more likely to be gay, if his father was abusive or their was a lack of input from a father figure. This doesn't mean however that if these criteria are met, you are going to be gay, or vice versa.
I hope this was useful :)

Yeah Ash, it was, and in fact I was always more interested in boys than girls even when I was a 6 y/o :D

hmm thats interesting. But the sterotyping of gay people is annoying.
People think if a guy acts girly and waves his hand around and wears pink, he is gay. I'm not saying it's true or false, but some people forget that being gay has to do with which sex you're attracted to. You can't tell that by looking at a person either.
This confuses me, so at least I'm asking so I get outside info.

What's the question? I don't wear pink. Sure, I'm a bit frilly, but I'm not as frilly as Alex (one of our admins) and he doesn't act that frilly!
I don't act that girly really : /

Well you might know that, but it sure as hell that not everybody does! :P

Don't you compare me to everybody, such unfair odds.
Most people do know the difference, they simply decide to lean to the more believable assumption.

Yeah I agree with You Movealong, and you too, subliminaltim. I didn't mean for it so sound so sterotypical *altough it technically is* I just have seen people before assume that and I didn't understand it. And I meant the questions I originally posted, lol.
Idk.

It could be an assumption, but most people call you gay or a fag, not queer. Oh hush... complaining about being unfair? pfft. Maybe you want me to use most...mistakes are always made, even by you Tim :P

We never will. =) It doesn't bother me though. I don't care anyone's orientation as long as they dont pester me. If you do pester me, I still don't care!
Some people think gay people should be isolated *idk it's just what I've heard* and thats stupid because as long as they're not bugging anyone, I don't care.
Like I said, i dont care if you're gay, straight, bi, whatever, as long as you're not bugging me, what's the big deal?
i seem to be straying from my original post. Oh well.
