It's not a "problem" but if you want to, go for it. You might like it better, but what you're doing now is okay if you don't want to use it.

I don't often use it, but if I can feel quite a lot of friction I'll use vaseline which removes the problem. Lubricant would certainly help to get rid of your dryness and make wanking easier, though.
