Okay, well i've had my PS2 for well over 5 years now. Its one of those chunky ones.
I just bought Guitar Hero 2 a few days ago but am unable to play it due to major delays in the game which then results in getting all the music out of sync with the gameplay. I know for a fact it is my PS2 because I have delay on alot of my games (Mostly sports games or new games which involve alot of button pressing or fast gameplay)
Now before I go out and buy a new PS2 (slim one) does anyone have an idea on how to maybe clean my PS2? Because I have no idea what to clean, thanks

I am surprised your lasted that long mine only lasted like 2 years. But the only thing i could think of cleaning would be the laser inside the disk drive, but i don't think that would really help in this situation.

i oil my PS2 once a year, it still works fine, besides the loud fan in the back blurring. then it broke when it was in a box when i was moving to an apartment a year back ;_;

Haha yeah well i tried to open it up and i didnt have a skrewdriver small enough to get access to the lazer. So ill just get a new one, its time for one anyways

to be honest it sounds like your ps2 is trashed so getting a new one (or a ps3) is a good idea. the same thing happened to my regular ps and it stopped working a few weeks later :(

Just take the little screws out of the sides of your ps2 and clean the insides. But when you take the top off look out, thier is a little wire the connects to the on and off buttons of the ps2 because if you break that your ps2 is useless.

My guess is the plastic the laser is mounted on has worn out so it is having issues tracking. That would only cause read errors and slow loads, not lag, unless the sound is streamed off the disc. Cleaning my help slightly, but if the plastic is worn you're screwed. You may also need to clean the processor's heatsink.

Well its not exactly lag, its sorta like it freezes for a second and then comes out out of sync. Thats on guitar hero, but yeah i've decided to just get a new PS2 not the PS3.

If it's a synchronizing problem and not a lag problem then it's a tracking issue while it's streaming the music. Only thing you actually can do is replace it.

Yeah well, Career and Quickplay mode are too much for my "tracker" to handle, because of all the stuff in the background, so i am playing GH2 on practice mode right now becuase thats the only thing my PS2 can handle, but im waiting for my mom to take me to futureshop so i can but another pS2

Maybe it also a heat issue with the processor. Clear the heatsink of dust if you can get at it. All the game music should be stored at the same quality, so the speed shouldn't matter unless it streams video, too.
