My Phone Let Me Get In

I have a Blackberry Curve that it a few years old and whenever I try to put in a "T", which is a part of my password, a "yi" comes up instead. It was working before I put it in my pocket to go somewhere and then I return and try to open it, it won't let me. I am afraid to try all the attempts because it wall erase all of the information on the phone and I have a lot of stuff that is important to me on it. Someone help me out. How do I get back into my phone?

You make a backup on your computer using Blackberry Desktop Software 9, then you do a complete wipe / erase, followed by an update check, and if there is any updates, you update the phone, and then you restore all the information with the said software.
