View Full Version : More mods?

Earlier today, there was a severely attacking thread posted on the puberty forums. I had to report it TWICE and request a mod on the SHOUTBOX! It took mods 1 hour before they could respond and remove the post from the forums. (I'm not giving the details for a reason, PM me for information)
Because of that, I think that we could:
have more mods
give regular users certain powers to regulate the forums
force mods to be present 24/7
Any of these methods would be helpful. When I say "regular users", I mean anyone that's not a mod. I really don't know how to expand on that idea, though.

1) no. What I say is we get rid of the inactive mods and have an opening. Adam said he'd be gone and Lynn is dead. Jk she's not dead but she hasn't been on in a long time and doesn't really deserve the job
2) it's a nice idea, but I'm not sure if it defeats some kind of purpose...
3) no. Mods are volunteer members and are not employed - they are regular teens and have lives just like you. No mod can be forced to do anything.
It's kinda hard to get good members in the time zones you want them. A bad thread can be up for 1 hour, maybe even 2 as long as it gets taken care of within like 5 hours. It was a little mis-hap and it happens. Not very often, but it does happen and it's always good to do what you can when you see a bad post. Do 1 or more of the following things.
Don't post in that thread
PM a Admin, Gmod or Mod and give the link to the user's profile
Press the Report Bad Post button (red and white triangle in bottom of post) once (not for every single post)
Don't talk about it or make threads about it and don't complain
Don't do anything

No! If we can get more mods, the more likely there will BE a mod if a problem arises. I'm a volunteer on Wikipedia, and I know for a fact that because we have so many admins on Wikipedia, they can deal with problems 24/7!
Also, if regular users can actually have some sort of power in dealing with problems like spam, then there would be less work taken off the mod's shoulders, and everyone will be happier. This works on Wikipedia as well. If someone's running around vandalizing encyclopedia articles, anybody can go after the vandal and reverse the edits made. Then those people can go to a noticeboard and request an admin to block the vandal. If we can apply the same principal to VTeen, with a relationship between user and mod, then everything will be easier.

I have no idea why everybody calls this vTeen :| This site is VT or VirtualTeen, not vTeen. vTeen is a diff site ---> www.vteen.com
The mod's job's aren't that hard. Nobody needs to help mods in any way except reporting posts in the ways I said above.

Just because an issue isn't sorted within a couple of hours, its not the end of the world and there is no need to go crazy about it, its just stupid. Report it, and a mod or admin will do it as soon as they can.

If only the mods would *ahem* check the reported posts...
I didn't know VTeen was a different site...I guess I learn something new everyday!:)

Most of them do. They're just not at your command because they have lives too! :P

lol...maybe I'm getting too paranoid. Would everyone else agree???
Anyway, I do participate a lot in Wikipedia. I probably just got used to issues being dealt with within seconds. What, you don't believe me? Go ahead and add the words "FUCK YOU" to the Dick Cheney article. You are going to be reversed and reprimanded withing 1 min! :D Anyway, so yeah. Maybe I carried things a LITTLE too far.

lol :P well, I gotta say that the mods on moderating aren't that fast, but I and a few others sure read new posts that fast! Although I'm one of the ones that acutally reads the bad ones, so I get to be the one that reports all of them :-/
Still, I think this problem isn't that big, although it still bugs me that we have 2 inactive mods
In fact, I say we get another active Gmod! (no offense to Dante and Cody!! Just saying that they just aren't THAT global so they couldn't catch stuff extremely fast)

I normally am able to check the site around that time but I was gone for the whole morning and afternoon because I was at a new student orientation for college. So sorry the importance of my education was an inconvenience for you to the site .
Very rarely do incidents occur where something happens and a mod is unavailable. All you have to do is report the post and chill for a bit until a moderator or admin comes online. It's not that big of deal and I think you're very much over blowing the situation.

Congrats on going to college! Promise us you'll tell us what it's like, ok? I don't want to be left in the dark.
As I said above, I was used to the Wikipedia way of things. Sorry about that!

I'm a volunteer on Wikipedia, and I know for a fact that because we have so many admins on Wikipedia, they can deal with problems 24/7! you are comparing a site that has under a thousand active members to a site that is visited millions of times a day. And there is this really cool feature were if you don't like a post you can not click on it, crazy isn't it.

this is not wikipedia!
1. we done have that kind of man power.
2. we cant force mods to be on 24/7
3. your not going to die if the post isnt removed...this website has teens from all differnt time zones so we can not all be expected to get rid of somthing the second it happends.
4. The mods that are on at the time of the reported post might not be able to do anything about it because we may not mod that specific forum
and
5. this is not vTeen
im sorry friend, but you are the weakest link....Goodbye.

Well first I appreciate your interest in the well being of the site.
But the thing is we have a very good staff here. There is rarely a situation where there would be a long period of time without a staff member on.
Giving regular members, on a forum situation, more powers is just something we couldn't do. It would lead to a lot of misuse.

Honestly I don't even have to
You've been a member for a few days
i've been active for 3yrs
1) We are looking at all mods and trying to find ways to increase watch time without promoting a ton of members opening room to a higher risk of missuse and inactivity
2) Theres no way we are going to give every single member gmod abilitys so they can clean threads whenever they see something wrong
imagine how that would go over in a fight?
3) Demand that all mods stay on 24/7? ya retard
A) its volunteer
B) We have real world lives
C) thats not physically possible even if we tried humans need to eat sleep n shit at a BARE MINIMUM
the fact that you as a n00b come storming in and demand that
ya
i'm not impressed
I've been here for years
the staff and long time members are friends of mine
I have allot of respect towards all of them
I don't like how you see no problem with storming in and going insane over one post that took only 1hr to be removed
Oh and on another note
do NOT report the exact same post twice just because your impatient
thats spamming

Well, if I could just give my opinion on this...It's only a thought, but I think it should be considered.
I think we should have a Global Mod that's fairly global...(no offense Cody, it's only a suggestion)...A global mod who's online frequently and available throughout most of the day (like Alex was!). I also think this member should be responsible and not have any forum system turned off or any forums minimized...like the whole deal, can see the Psych Ward and see avatars/sigs. I think this member should be stable and perfect for the job - no big plans ahead for the near future that might interfere after getting promoted.
As for other mods, I say get rid of a few Gen Discussion mods and a few puberty mods, and maybe promote one puberty mod.
Sure, I haven't covered everything, but I wanted to just say what I think about a few points... :whoops:

Sure, a global moderator would be nice... A moderator that not only has control over all the forums but also control of time itself! It would be amazing because this moderator would never eat, never sleep, never hang out with friends, and never live their life. Great, right?
The point is, that can't happen. VirtualTeen might be a fairly active site, but it shouldn't consume more than half of anyone's waking hours - not even half.
I think we have a decent staff. What you, Romeo, witnessed was an hour of delay. While that might seem fast to some and slow to others, I think it's a decent speed. Wikipedia has flags and alerts whenever someone edits something has has some word in it. For instance, every time you edit something and submit new material that has any swear words in it, it pops up in the administrators' flagged entries area. Since they have about 100 (or more) times the activity, you can expect that they have 100 times more staff.
Anyway, we've been wondering about some staff members and thinking about revising some guidelines. Maybe within the next month we'll be getting some new moderators and hopefully we can have a broader range of time zones.
Now, I'm going to lock this up to prevent anymore hassling. :)
