Yes. Exactly. Even the so called punks and rebels, are under the influence of the media, by going against the medea. It is a little depressing to know that you don't have any opinions. Every decision you make is decided by the media.

That depends on what you define as "the clutches of the media". If you are referring to one's ability to ignore gossip and such that it spouted on various television programs, or maybe new of the latest fashion, then yes; I believe it is possible to remove yourself from such -what some, including I, may call trivial- things. If, however you are referring to one's ability to completely avoid all forms of media, then no. It's nearly physically impossible to avoid any and all forms of social media nowadays, seeing as it comes in forms such as radio, television, and advertisements one sees on the side of the roads.
It would help me if you could specify what it is you are asking.

I'm asking if it is possible for a person to say that they are completely detached from the media, and they have no care of what the media says without being somewhat untruthful.

I refuse to be influenced by the mainstream media.
If anyone on here thinks that it has an affect on them, you are weak, you don't have enough willpower and self confidence. I stopped giving a fark about the media, and I feel great. I advise you all do the same.
If anyone wants to learn how to become a stronger person and say "fuck you" to the media and not let it influence you I advise you check out this site

Media influences us for better or for worse.
There are some who have to have the latest outfit that they saw [insert name here] wear on Skins/some other stupid TV show, and there are others who turn to other media, like punk rock and doctor who, but the stimulus that reaches our brains (the media) has an inevitable effect, however small, on who we are.

Precisely, I mean even that attitude would come from people who would've made a name for themselves by coming on t.v. and sprouting crap like 'I never listen to what the media tells me!'. Plus this attitude isn't something new, non-conformists have been around for centuries.

Exactly the point I was trying to make above. When you say that you are going against the media, you are actually under the influence of the media. And if you are to decide not to wear whatever is 'in' or watch the new movies, than that means you give a shit about what the media says, and that you are actually under the influence

You're influenced by everything. When you 'go against' the media you're not doing it because of what they say usually, but instead joining a anti-culture and if you don't know what that is you should look into sociology. I may have used the wrong term, someone please correct me if I am wrong.

It is impossible to be detached from the media if you have ever encountered it. People are not naturally solitary animals we like the stimulation that comes from other humans. Even if we say we dont care what media says it still affects our actions
If a person lives in small tribe in a third world country that modern civilization has never encountered then it might be possible to not be affected by it.

But that's still part of the media and it influences you in some way, right?
