:( Ok. I am 16 and I was just playing Xbox, minding my own business when all of a sudden my father comes into my room. He says he wants to use my PC to try and open a zip file because his Mac can't do it.

My blood runs icy cold as I realise that he would have to put the file onto my computer to do this, and if he did, he would see my "Hiding place". I foolishly forgot to reroute the file path since opening it, and he would see all the files I had downloaded. And I had quite a few there too. Some of it was fetish stuff... There was no way I could let him see it. Even the file names would give it away.

So I took a few seconds to gather my courage and did the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I quietly explained that before I gave him use of my PC, I needed to delete some files. He asked me why of course. I tried to sugarcoat it as much as possible but after several misunderstandings, I was forced to put it bluntly. I said: "Naughty ones..." He said: "Oh..." and got a strange look on his face, like a cross between shock and horror. He walked out, I hastily deleted my files and he came back. He did what he needed to do and then left. Without saying a word. He didn't even look at me the whole time.

I don't know what to do! The awkwardness level was off the charts and even now, my heart is pounding hard. I'm afraid that this will cause a permanant rift between us. I'm still shaking. What do I do? I don't think I can ever look him in the eye again. Some advice? Or at least some comforting words?

P.S This is just some extra info. I have been looking at such things for years. I enjoy it in moderation and have a lively social life. I absolutely do not consider women to be sexual objects. I actually find women fascinating, both in body and mind. I know the difference between what I see and reality. Its kind of like an action movie in a way. It looks realistic, but at the back of your mind you know that there is no way that would really happen.

i think you did the right thing! it would be worse if he found the files, a lot more awkward. he has to assume that horny teenage boys with computers in their rooms are going to look at stuff...i say pretend that nothing happened (which is tough, i know), and if he wants to bring it up just go with the flow~~~ =)

You did the right thing for sure. Things will be awkward for a little while but after a week or so things will probably be usual again. Don't worry too much

To avoid the awkward encounters, your best bet is to just pretend that it didn't even happen. Try to act normally and don't bring it up again unless you really need to. He'll probably do the same. He's your dad, and this is a part of growing up, he understands.

Cheers for the advice everyone. I wont bring it up again. Hopefully it will become one of those things that you bury deep in your memory banks, never to resurface unless something similar happens again... >_>

Thanks again. :)

"his Mac can't do it." - This makes Macs look bad. They can open all archives with no issues if it has the correct software installed.

Sorry, I just wanted to say that..
To answer the question; I think you did the right (and mature) thing. He probably already assumed that you look at 'naughty files' anyway. If you had just said yes and let him use it, it would have been much worse for him to actually see the files.

It really depends on your dad. Some people's parents have different personalities...I think the fact that you didn't get in trouble/scolded is a good sign. If anything he'll just give you a little talk about sex and whatnot...if that. Think about it like this, when your dad was your age he probably looked at porn too and probably had to do a lot more work to find it lol

Trust me bro, I been there before with the dad catching you watching porn or having porn related files! It was even worst for me because I forgot to delete my history and my dad stalked it while I was sleeping after school and long story short, I was going through that curious phase and had gay porn on there -_- (i'm straight though) he ended up taking my laptop but you should really get the courage again (trust me, i know its awkward. I had to explain to my dad that I WASNT gay) but you should talk to him and tell him that your sorry that he had to see that etc. but it IS a normal part of life/puberty and just being a teenager. Enjoying sex and sexuality. I'm sure your father did the same when he was your age. Just talk to him about it, he probably feels as awkward as you do. BUT you SHOULD NOT, I repeat SHOULD NOT, feel ashamed. because it IS normal. And your DAD should be the one telling you that and stepping up and talking to you about it, but if he wont, you should still strike the conversation with him first. It will be awkward but its important to be open.

I've got a really shitty computer and a few years ago when I first started watch porn (and downloading all of it), my dad walked in without knocking. Normally I'm pretty quick to close the tab, but my computer froze. He just looked at me and said "Christ..." before leaving.

It was awkwards for like two weeks after that, but then, when the awkwardness had passed he said he was proud of me. =D

I think what you did was not only smart, but the mature thing to do. You shouldn't be worried, your dad should know that a teen your age would most likely have porn. I'm sure he understands. If anything, I admire you for the courage to tell your dad. Kudos to you man! :)

Yeah, just remember that your dad went through what your going through. HE probably understand that you have porn, and it was good for you to handle the situation in a mature manner. Most likely he will let it go and after a few days things will go back to life as normal.

The thought of this happening made me laugh.

[enters room, see's son with porn]
"Christ..."
[exits room]

Anyway- your dad was a boy once too- he knows what its like to be 16. I'm sure the awkwardness will pass in a few days... Just don't bring it up :)

Off topic really quick. But I find it odd how you said you had "naughty" things on there.

But don't worry, what do you think he did when he was younger? He probably tried sneaking playboys or whatever, it will probably be very awkward for the next week or even month, but you'll both probably forget about it. Just never mention it again, he might forget or, when you're older he'll poke jokes about that very moment. Heck, my dad a few months ago told my grandma what he did when he was younger (he broke into houses at the age of 13, but just stole small money, like $3 or what not). In the future it will be a funny moment, not an embarrassing one.

I believe that it's your father now who should fix the situation. If i were you id make it clear that youwere uncomfortable and it is his responsibility to assure you that everything is fine. I hope everything works out for you and your father. Good luck!

yeah, it gets awk, but it was just like a face where he realized that you masturbate and look at porn now. basically every guy does it, and that doesnt change the fact. hell, he might even look at porn now and then. and of course masturbate. just dont worry about it, you did the right thing.

Ok it might have seem awkward at first but man in the long run this is te best thing you could do. You didn't lie or make something up you simply did what you had to. Everything will be ok

My dad found me looking at porn on Utube when I was 10 (Before they set restrictions against the stuff) and he just grunted, I turned around and he had the look that told me I was going to die for what I did, I panicked and closed the porn out without thinking, he then yelled at me for 2 hours. After that he tried to have my mom confiscate my PC saying "That thing is dangerous!!" and he wouldn't stop bothering me about it for a month, a year later my mom found porn on my laptop and asked me if I wanted my uncle to get me some magazines of the stuff, I refused knowing he probably wouldn't let me hear the end of it. Since then I've been doing research, I can hide the files in hidden folders but the desktop search will show any files that aren't system files. Believe me, your lucky your dad didn't freak out about it.

its good he didn't just find them... it may be awkward, but it would have been more awkward if he just found them
