I have this problem, I always eat while I am bored, and it has caused me to gain a lot of excessive weight. I have been trying to lose some weight recently; I have been working out and eating right, but can't seem to kick the habit.

Can anyone help with some experiences or tips that I can use?

Boredom eating is a horrible affliction but all you have to do is drink something and it'll go away.

Instead of eating try drinking instead or chewing gum or doing other activities

I would suggest you do something, no, honestly. FInd something you enjoy doing whether it be running, soccer, football, reading a book, singing, dancing and occupy your time...

Eating because you are bored can be very destructive...you have to take charge and take that boredom and do something constructive with it.

I do the same thing, I just try and keep myself busy usually by working a ton during the week or hanging out with friends.

Carrot sticks, Celery Sticks, apples, grapes, oranges, all these things will fill you up quickly and take away the hunger pangs without making you gain weight.

I am so bad with this, I always end up eating when I'm bored. I'll walk into the kitchen and realize that I'm not hungry at all, but I don't have anything better to do.

Really random, but I've found that if I want to keep myself from eating any more (Usually I do it at night, when I know I should be done eating for the night, but I might be tempted if I'm studying or something) I'll brush my teeth, and floss, and then use mouthwash. Then, anything you eat would be tainted with the taste of toothpaste, so I don't even want to eat anymore!

And if I don't do that, I usually chew gum so that I don't feel like eating.

Basically, if you are getting something to eat think about if you're really hungry or if you're bored. If you're bored, don't eat it.

Sometimes I eat when I'm bored, too. It's sort of like grazing, but I try to not do it as much as I can, don't want to gain a bunch of weight y'know...

Well on rare occasions when I do bordom eat. It's always fruit because I love the stuff. Other than the possibility of tooth decay, whitch with regular brushing is avoidable. I suggest you find something to do, better than eating for the sake of doing something.

I do this every now and again. A while ago it did cause me to put on a lot of weight, but what I've done since is change what it is that I eat. Now I try to eat something that is either healthy, or indifferent - things like low fat cereal, grain bars etc.

I've never experienced it but I think I can help you out a bit.

Well, it's boredom eating, so maybe if that's all that's triggering it you could target the boredom? Find some new hobbies, a new video game if you're into that, whatever it is. Or pledge to take a walk every time you feel like eating. Anything your mind can focus on.

And if you do end up eating out of boredom, try to choose foods with low caloric intake. Veggies and fruits are good. Pickles are nice because they've got that salt and crunch but they don't have anything really to them except you have to watch the sodium.

I used to be like you, I found that chewing gum helped get my mind off the hunger, but then I relized that nibbling on food at intervals throughout the day helps and keeps you skinny. I also chew gum if I have nothing to nibble on.

Personally, I can never get enough sodium, without it I feel insanely tired. Pickles are great for me because I guess sodium helps me burn calories more efficiently. If I didn't get much sodium my metabolism would be a calorie hog and I would need a constant source of calories.

I'm a huge boredom eater, and can tell you that drinking usually doesn't help me. I chew gum instead, preferably sugarfree gum because it's better for your teeth (and lower in calories)
Best of luck!

I made this homemade "chew toy" out of corn stalks and wheat...I chew on this cheaper than gum stalk to fight boredom eating
