Hi,
I really think that some kind of weekly, monthly or even six monthly podcast would be rather appropriate, or something to think about for VT. So you don't jump all over me, I have read through the position openings and found there was a newsletter... thing, that was closed due to a lack of interest. However I do think that, that was quite a while ago, and I'm sure that if it was given another chance it would have some degree of success, and I would be more than willing to contribute.

Okay, but what would be put in the newsletter?

Things like this tend to be dropped due to lack of interest and time commitment. If you could find people seriously committed to making it, I'm sure you could go to a senior staff member or admin with your idea but there would really be no sense in doing it once or twice and then half the group deciding they don't want to anymore. This was suggested again not too long ago but I don't believe it really went anywhere.
It's a neat idea but, like all ideas, there needs to be the effort put into it to make it actually happen.

Just to add on, what exactly would be put in this newsletter? There aren't constant updates or anything news worthy going on :P If something is important such as an update to the rules or something being addressed an announcement is made.

It's 0300 so I'll put this as logically as I can. An article from each of the sections. That isn't really in to depth, at all but meh that's all I can really... put into words at the moment.

While we're at it why dont we add a welcome video tot he PM that gets sent to all the new members?

I just can't really see it serving much purpose, since all important announcements are made as forum announcements.

I quote Eric's thread (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?p=1475971#post1475971).
I think we should have a newsletter, and hold positions for it. I think it'd be really cool, having a bunch of different subjects, maybe even a post of the week, you catch my drift. I saw that it was brought up before and no one really signed up for it, I would if it was brought up again. Please take this into consideration. :)
Thanks,
Bogumil
Things like updates, and VT anniversaries, birthdays, and posts of the week, member of the week, major things around the world
Things that are in VT Daily Chronicle. Also, member of the week, umm.. other things like jobs, post of the week, updates, mod position openings, just easier to read.
Basically what's been mentioned there. I think that with people that are dedicated and reliable enough - which there are - this could work quite well.

Well, I currently write two other newsletters, and I have been writing, editing and publishing one for 3 years and writing another for 1 year, so I'd be a willing newsletter editor/writer. Sounds like an okay idea, though there isnt really THAT much to put in it.

That's exactly the point I was trying to make. There really is no good reason for it.

I just stumbled upon this thread and I like the idea of having a newsletter. What about sending it to the members email. I'm guessing some people check their mail more than they log into this site.
Since im a noob, i copy paste... --v

Those are some examples of what we could have in the newsletter
The post of the week idea, i thought was pretty cool.
But I understand what you mean, its hard work to do all that, and finding out peoples birthdays and such. But its still a nice idea.
Maybe (If it were possible) we could try it out. Maybe for two months or more (like a trial) and if it works we continue it, and if it doesnt work out we can leave the idea.
Bu at least then we'd have tried it out first, before just abandoning the idea before we tried to put it into practice.
Just my thoughts <333 :)

I found a thread. It was a bit dated Here (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=50877)
However it probably would be the same.
It might work for a few months but in a long term people will stop or become inactive or ask to leave.
We would not know the content and everything important gets announced through sticky or announcements.
Therefore I do not think we need a newsletter as all the members are informed already.---However that is just my opinion.

As I've said a few times throughout this thread, and as Silver Assassin did, it would die out. People would stop caring, and I can't say that many people would probably care to read it over. It really doesn't add anything to the site, and it really has no major purpose.
The way I see it, there are other things that could be done, and other things that come up as needed, and this really doesn't even make the list.

I don't understand why you guys think it would die out. I mean, there are all new members. I know that I would like to, Matt said that he would like to, Sandeep said he would like to, I think even Z said she would. and this is just in this thread. My thread had 77.14% of people being interested in it. You wouldn't even need a member of the staff to look over everything that is said, maybe they would review it, but that's all. I mean, what would it hurt to try again?

Well Eric that's a fair point.
However when I personally look at it from both angles I see this.
It's all good people say they want it. People say they would love to help.
1-3 newsletters get published. One guy drops out. few more months some more drop out. Ends up crashing and burning. Then members who loved reading it get upset.
Or it goes like this did--->Here (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=50877)
I could see it taking off the ground and surviving a few months but I can't see it surviving forever.
The site overall does not greatly need it because the Admins keep us up to date with everything.
Just my opinion though. *shrugs*

Just like last time this was attempted, you'll do it for a month or two. Then, you'll keep putting it off because you don't feel like it, someone's not available, tired, whatever. Eventually you'll forget about it. Then several months later you'll remember, try to get the group together again, but they've all long given up, and you end up saying "eh, fuck it". And then it will fade into the past.

No, I really think that Eric won't give up on this, and he'll keep doing it.

Whether it dies out or not, what would you put in it?
I don't see how you can have this for a site which is predominantly a help site. I just don't see the point, or what it would add to the site.

I would have too agree. I just don't see what it would add to a site that's predominantly a help website. Where any changes or updates are seen very clearly.

if you really think you can walk your talk, then prove to me. I'm not gonna waste my time. If you have a group that will be committed to it, great, but I really don't think this is really needed. Also, there will not be any face, title, reward or staff position for the work done or made.

Alright. I will try to start something. Because so many suggestions here are automatically put down. So here, I'm gonna try this, and if it dies out, then oh well. If it doesn't than cool. I'll start getting to work on this.
