Well the title really says it all does it not?
I do not smoke, I do not like the smell that much.
I do not like the litter that is left behind by it.
So I stand in the middle: There are some things I agree with and Some things I do not agree with in this kind of debate.
However I must admit I can see it like this.
The Anti Smokers complained about smoking indoors so they changed it to outside. They changed it to outside Guess what they are not happy!!!
So we change it to not outside of buisnesses because of course we can see it is outside them but guess what it is kinda their fault they complained about indoors and now out doors is not good enough.
So in my eyes it will never end, I think smokers should be able to smoke where they want when they want maybe not in restruants but in offices with ventalition sure.
So where do you stand on this side of the debate?
p.s I know there is a slightly simaller thread but this is diffrrent.

I personaly am a smoker and I always make sure to smoke at least 25 feet away from doors of bussinesses and whatnot. + I stand away from people that dont smoke and small children. + I never litter so IDK I think theres nothing wrong with smoking if your responsible with it. :)

Just to comment. Thats good that you are kind and considerate yet many would argue that a lot of smokers are not as considerate.
But no i agree if you are responsible there should be no problem yet many do still complain.

Non-smokers need to stop being uptight little bitches about the smell, and smokers need to stop being uptight about their bullshit "personal freedoms."
I think that banning public indoor smoking is fine. But banning public outdoor smoking is taking it way too far and really just comes down to people having sticks up their asses.

I don't think it's selfishness. I just think it's overreacting on the anti-smoker's part.
As well, smokers in general are so much more considerate than the anti-smokers seem to think. I have a lot of friends who smoke and none of them are as selfish as people seem to think we are. As well as me, I took after my mum's good habits as far as smoking. I'm very considerate, only smoke in private if I can help it and if it's around someone I don't know, I always ask.
But seriously, before I started smoking I just held my breath for ten seconds while I was passing someone. Is that really too inconvenient? And if you're being exposed to it longer, you know, you can walk away...

is it really too inconvenient for a smoker not to smoke around others? If a person walks by while they're smoking couldnt they just pay attention and stop for 10 seconds until the person walks away? Just sayin
to be honest i hang out with my friends who smoke and i dont really care as long as they dont smoke in my car or blow smoke on me.
but if its someone i dont know i dont like them smoking around me because i only like my friends being hazards to my health.

Uh, honestly as someone who smokes I don't see the big deal about smoking outside. it's polite and there are chemicals in smoke that can be dangerous. Plus the smell really sucks. I won't let anyone smoke in my house. As for personal freedoms, if your personal freedoms infringe upon the rights of others to stay away from substances like smoke, that makes it the problem of the smoker in my opinion. If you want to have sex, wonderful, go to a private room and clean up after yourselves. Don't do it in front of us because it's both awkward and we have the right not to see that thank you.

This is the stupidest post I've ever seen, seriously.
What fucking difference does it make if your friend is not blowing smoke in your face or some stranger is not? Essentially you shouldn't have a problem with either then, right?
Plus this goes back to your first point about a smoker stopping for ten seconds until someone else could walk away. Again, if they aren't (and I'm sure no smoker does this, this is a bad argument) blowing smoke in your face then what difference does it make? Nobody blows smoke at you, if you see this constantly happening to you by smokers, then you probably should consider that there is something terribly wrong with you.

Indoor smoking is one issue, but honestly the only problem I have with people smoking outdoors is that it makes me want to start again and that's my own problem, I've learned how to mostly just suck it up. The anti-smokers need to realize that smoking is perfectly legal and get over it. Hold your breath for five seconds if you're going to walk past a smoker and don't want those chemicals in your lungs.

The extremests on either end need to take a fucking chill pill, and reassess their priorities. That guy on the subway is not going to be the only smoker your child will experience, and you won't be there to tell off half of the others. I don't like smoking, it has the potential to kill you, but do you what else has the potential to kill you? EVERY FUCKING THING ON THIS PLANET. Do I go holding up badly painted picket signs protesting them? Nope. But I also don't go around breathing shit down people's throats, and bitching about personal freedom. Get over yourselves.

Haha xD. Good joke mate. Don't say this in front of your enemies because they would start becoming your friends so that you'll allow them to be "hazards to your health."
Who is more Selfish: The Smokers? or The Anti Smokers?
Everyone can be selfish. Some anti-smokers make a fuss over nothing and think that they're going to die just because there's someone smoking 30 feet away from them.
Then there are smokers who are just plain careless and maybe don't care. However, I don't think that there are many people who just go about waving smoke in other people's faces. You would have to be a total dick to do that.
In public places, I agree that smoking should be banned. But if I'm with my friend chatting on a public bench and we decide to smoke a cigarette, why is it so much of a problem?

I'll only address this part since the second part has already been pointed out. :P
Uh, no, actually we're already inconvenienced because we have to smoke in designated areas and we're already usually to the side, at least most people who aren't idiots. So unless they're coming right up to you and smoking, why the fuck are you walking near them? I don't get why the anti-smokers find it inconvenient to be proactive about their health that they're so worried about (when the amount of second-hand smoke the average person in a non-smoking household is being exposed to is really not enough to have the effect people seem to think it will).

I have no problem with people who smoke cigarettes in public or indoors, as long as you don't have children or a fucking baby around, which is common fucking knowledge. I've been raised by cigarette smoke my entire life though and can say there's much worse things to complain about.
If you're trying to pressure someone into it you're a douchebag. Your self destruction shouldn't be anyone's business. My self destruction is nobody's business unless I have no problem showing it. We all destroy ourselves in different ways anyways, some ways we don't even realize. It's not a big deal - life is about death anyways.
Then there's the people who want you to be X feet away from Y because they don't want any smokers near or people inhaling smoke. That bothers me. I'm not a complete genius on this discussion, but you can always walk away from something that smells bad to you. It's not a big deal. Like I said, I grew up to shitty smells and you just get used to it. There's so much out there that I find pointless to complain about. Maybe that ruins my judgement.
Most restaurants and stores won't let you smoke inside anyways. Just go to those places if you don't want to be filled in a room of smoke.

What i'm about to say goes for smoking as well.
The difference between tattooed people and non tattooed people is that tattooed people don't care that you don't have tattoos.

I used to smoke a lot (Not really in public) But I tried to be respectful I have met smokers who are assholes. But most non-smokers think that they are better than smokers.

I occasionally smoke and I don't think it's as simple as smokers are selfish and Anti Smokers are not, or the other way around. I would never smoke around anyone that wouldn't want me too. I only smoke when I need to calm down or hanging out with my friends. My parents smoke and I remember being young and always hating smoke in my eyes or in the car behind then when they smoked. I will always respect non-smokers and I expect non-smokers to respect me.

Another thing, I smoke on occasion and I find that when you go and as someone "hey buddy, got a smoke I can bum/buy off you?". I also noticed that when people smoke it is easier to meet people that way, because you're all chattled into your smoking designated areas it allows an icebreaker for conversation haha. But in my nearby city a few people have been stabbed cuz they wouldn't give someone a smoke for free.

I personally thing that the smokers are more selfish. Their secondhand smoke can harm people as well, and the smell of smoke can trigger asthma attacks. Also, they are role models for the next generation who will want to smoke too.

Is "selfish" truly the correct word to use here? What about needy? The non-smokers feel that they need a truly smoke-free environment, which is preferable to me, personally. However, for those who do smoke, are hooked on nicotine, and experience withdrawl symptoms when they do not fulfill their daily nicotine dosage. This i can understand, because I had to help a friend out of an addiction. The issue here is that these 2 needs conflict, and there truly can not ever be a place to meet dead even. For the non-smokers, there will always be smokers, and for the smokers, there will always be nicotine. The 2 "classes" will conflict until the end of the modern world. (Or until the tobacco crop is diminished. whichever comes first. Hopefully the tobacco plants. XD)
