It's like being black and republican. It only matters if you make it matter.

Yes, most and many Christians are not homophobic. It's mainly the fundamentalists that think that way.

Bible scripture shouldn't be taken literally, otherwise people should give ALL of their money to the poor, not wear certain materials at the same time among other ridiculous things. You have to take into consideration the fact that an "abomination" in Bible terms is something against tradition, not inherently immoral or wrong. Many parts of the bible in relation to homosexuality were just discussing procreation and how you should try to reproduce and make more people. The bible also has a story where a man who spunks out of some woman's fanny after having sex with her is killed by God. Given our time and population, it would be unreasonable to argue procreation is the best thing any more. Also you have to look at the historical context of the book among other things; the Bible shouldn't be taken at face value and so many people use it as an excuse to flaunt their own prejudice at the expense of others.

It's a bit contradictory, but it's possible. You're not going to find many gay people to be Christian or even affiliated with religion, which is why most people consider LGBT persons to be irreligious.

Completely agree. I think it's near impossible to be a literal Christian now.

I guess I've said this somewhere before but it's down to how you define yourself. Everybody's degree of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Zoroastrianism, Hinduism, Taoism et al. is different. Same applies to other philosophies or even political beliefs. Just because one would associate themselves with Socialism for instance, may not mean that they are fully in congruence with what Socialism postulates. They could mean it in a traditional sense, in its purest form, a more modernised paradigm or make it an amalgamation of different ideals with the majority being recognised as Socialist-esque.

Of course you can, I mean Im not Christian (im Taoist) but from the research ive done on Christ and his belifes in strictly the NEW testament, he just loves everybody and I guess I dont think he would care if you were gay or not. Everyone says hes "all loving" so im guessing gay falls under "all" :)

Honestly, I don't think so.

I think you can believe in everything a Christian believes in except for the homosexuality sin, but if I was in that position, I would not call myself a Christian. It's like saying "I'm full white, but my mother is Black." That's my personal belief. And sure, if you want to say you shouldn't take the bible literally, then you can't take any of the bible literally. The opposite is the same. If you want to take something in the bible as proof/truth, then you have to take all of the bible that way instead of picking and choosing as you see fit.

I have issues with people who are so hung up on belonging to a single group so they will believe in even only half of the beliefs of that religious group and still say they're part of that religious group. ಠ_ಠ You don't need a title for your beliefs to call it a religion. And honestly, even if I believed in most of the things Christianity preaches I still wouldn't want to associate myself with that group. I bring this up a lot in these discussions, but my psychologist is pantheistic, believes in reincarnation and meditates, and uses the pentagram as a protection symbol. Okay, I guess that sounds really pagan. But how she talks about it, it's very mixed. She takes different aspects of religions she's studied and formulates her own opinion and doesn't give herself a title. I feel like I'm that way. I'm an atheist but I'm very spiritual. So I don't really label myself an atheist but it's usually the term I use to describe it to others. Atheist with some pagan aspects.

Im 'religious' in a sense that god is a part of my life and igo to church. But I havnt read the bible, so when it comes to context, I just dont know. Some religious people just seem ignorant to me. So if you wanna follow the bible to a T, u probably wanna be straight. I dont

I guess. Bit of an oxymoron, but I guess it could be possible.
