Hello VT.
Do you think Scotland should have its independence from the rest of the United Kingdom?
I would have to say no. This is simply because it’s not clear on what is and will happen.
I mean let’s face it, the current ideas that have been said are stupid, for example Scotland would change its currency from pound to Euro, we would not even be a member of the EU never mind the fact that the Euro is in turmoil. It’s just silly suggested things like that, that make me think no. Obviously there is more to this debate but what do you guys think?

Making up a brand spankin' new currency probably isn't the smartest idea though. I think that there isn't really any good reason for them to leave, but then again I'm completely indifferent.

They already are separate in a lot of ways technically. so why would they have any reason to go farther apart?

I really don't understand why they aren't content with being part of the UK. I mean, at least it's not as bad as Ireland anyway... Then again, what do I know? I'm 14 :P

Are we not called the United Kingdoms of Great Britain and Northern Ireland? That would have to change if Scotland got independence!
Personally, I think no, there are cities in England with a bigger population than Scotland, how would they fund themselves? I do not think Alex Salmond and his cronies have thought this through at all.

Well the top statement is obvious, it would have to change.
As for the funding it would be easy enough to getting ground funding and the Scottish economy isn't terrible but it has not been make excessively clear on how the funding would work
As currently the the SG is funded with various grants from Westminster.

I'll keep it simple. Scotland could not survive economically if it became independent. Even though they have many Scotland specific infrastructures in place, it wouldn't be enough.

Yes it should.
I'm of French-Canadian and Scottish descent. One might say I have a fiercely independent spirit.
There are much more unimportant ex-federated parts of the world than Scotland doing well enough for themselves as independent countries. Look at Montenegro.

I think the economic power of Edinburgh and Glasgow are enough to sustain the county, however the economic power of London as the joint world financial centre with New York is incomparably larger and the south of England through tertiary and finance-related employment brings in a huge amount of money through taxation to the United Kingdom as a whole when it comes to economic regards.
Personally, I'd like to see Scotland becoming independent from the UK. This is due to personal views that Scotland more or less just leech of us and here in England we get a raw deal due to Scotland already having an independent Parliament. To me it's ridiculous we're both countries within the same country but residents from one have their tuition fees subsidised, but the other doesn't. I don't want to see an English Parliament, but if Scotland wants to have different economic or social policy then I feel it should power itself economically in order to do that.
It also depends on the technicalities of how it would all work. I don't want to see a passport control from England to Scotland and there would definitely still have to be a very strong relationship between Scotland and the rest of the UK for their independence to be any kind of success. I think that Scotland will become independent due to a lot of its citizens being very nationalistic but not realising the consequences of such a move.
