Wow im sorry, people are harsh and very judgemental/stereotypical they just don't understand. Please don't take them seriously, they're really not worth it.
My friends have seen mine but i someone managed to convince them i grazed myself even though they look nothing like grazes and another friend asked if i was born with "lines" over my body so i just said yes. Before that i didn't know people could be so stupid -_-
I still get to hear the comments about emo's and stuff, i get so deffensive and all i can do is sit there and suck it up. People should be taught about them in school or something so kids at least know the difference because i don't think half of them understand, not that they have a brain to actually process the new information but hey.

Hi Connor
Important thing here is don't let it reduce your self-esteem! People often don't understand this issue but that is their problem, not yours. Your embarrassment alone shows that you don't cut for attention. I hope this doesn't make you too self-conscious now, trust me you have the right to not hear those kinds of comments!
Take care,

On my left hand I had a deep cut, and on my right hand I had scratched myself (Through the first layer of the skin). I'm in a place right now where I kind of want my parents to know... So i didn't hide them. My mum saw and asked.
I just came up with the lame excuse of "it was the cat", and I didn't come up with an excuse for my right hand because it is so obvious what it was. I told her "I scratched myself... no, It wasn't a mosquito bite, I just *did* it...".
She laughed and said "Hahaha, with that on your scratches on that hand, and the cut on your other hand, you look emo! Hahahahaha!!!".

My big sister thought I was cutting. I was, but I made up some stupid lie that the metal cabinet did it to me. I told my classmates my dog did it. Everyone just dropped it. Now people only see the scars.

Oh shit what a bitch quick Magenta throw the switch
Okay in all seriousness I think you need to talk to your so called "friend" about the issue. Maybe they don't understand (most likely they don't because they said a rude comment like that.)
