I've used Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, OpenSUSE, CentOS, kubuntu, xubuntu, and yeah.

I like Ubuntu out of those due to the simplicity.

When I first got my computer, I tried Ubuntu because of the commercialization. Unfortunately, it really hated my hard drive back then, so it decided to crash twice. I'd had enough of that, so I tried Fedora. That worked well for a while, until I decided I liked web development better.
Alas, Fedora was overly strict with security, and SELinux just wouldn't cooperate, so I started looking again.

Finally, I came upon openSUSE, which has been working great for me for almost a year now.
openSUSE is not for everyone, though, as some parts just can't be done with YaST2(which can do almost all common system tasks). You should know(or be willing to learn) some command line tricks.

In the end, it is all up to you. If you are just the common ordinary end-user, then you may be okay with Ubuntu, for example. If you do programming, the over-simplified distributions just won't do the trick, and you will need to search for something more usable. If you are just starting out, I advise you to try ArkLinux (http://www.arklinux.org/)(not to be confused with ArchLinux, which is the exact opposite of ArkLinux)
