View Full Version : Leg muscles not working anymore

I've just come back from 5 weeks of inpatient physical therapy after a week of hospital cure getting over a system-wide infection. I can't hardly walk! I know others have it worse than I do, but this is all so new and scary. I have a hard time with a walker, feels like I'm about to go down all the time, and while my legs seem to have some strength, there is almost no balance.
I'd like to meet some teens online who understand and have like experiences of their own. A forum where such kids get together, something. I'm just so unsure of what the future holds now. A week after getting out, I'm falling way short of expectation. Being at home is more challenging that a simple 3-hour therapy session a day.
I wish some of the guys I bunked with in rehab were online.

It's no where near close to what you're going through, but one time I broke my toe running, and had to stay home and get around on crutches for a while. It sucked. Get better soon!

I'm glad you're back.
I hope you get way better. (:

After a shitload of exercise one day, I literally couldn't walk for the next few days. If your legs still work, you just need to keep practising, regain the muscle and balance.

Tbh, it's gonna take time. You're getting over an infection, and you weren't able to walk and it hurt the muscles and limbs you were using all the time. It's gonna take atleast twice the amount of time to gain it back than it did to lose it, if not more. You've gotta keep going with it. If you stop and give up, then you'll never regain the use of your legs. Think of the goal and what the future holds. So what if you don't meet your goal one day? Be flexible, and set the goals small. Before you know it, you'll be back on your feet. You gotta learn to celebrate the small victories. I know it's hard, I've been through stuff with my body myself. It sucks, I know. Stay strong, man. I'm a PM away if you ever need someone to talk to. :)

Good luck with recovery! I know how sucky recovering can be (I ripped my rhomboid muscle and it took months before I could move my right arm for fear of re-ripping it) I have PT like every day almost... lol. If you ever need to talk, you can PM me too.
