damn hippies!

I was watching this program about the hippie movement in the US. It explained this funny theory: The US government saw this movement as a threat, and so they developed LSD and introduced it to the hippies to try and disorientate them. Needless to say it"worked", because that stuff turned them into hobos (giving them that iconic hobo look). Given that the US government did significant amount of research on LSD, I found this quite interesting. What do you think?

It's a stupid theory. The government did make LSD, however, its use was specifically given to the C.I.A. and F.B.I. for interrogations. It was called "truth serum". The only reason it got out was because somebody began distributing it to their friends and it grew. The hippie movement was seen as a threat, especially during the time it entered into American culture. Having the threat of the Soviet Union and the Cold War, "hippies" were not very welcomed by many people. I could see where the government saw the movement as a threat, as it was seen as "destroying" the youth of the country. But to think that the government actually gave the hippies LSD to undermine their movement is ridiculous. LSD and other drugs were a huge part of the hippie culture. The drugs didn't destroy the hippies, it was the passing of time which destroyed them.
