Alright VT doctors, let's see if you can help me out.

About 2 weeks ago I hooked up with some girl at a party that I think might have been sick.

For the first half week, I had a very runny nose and was overall just miserable.

At about the 5th day, I started to get a cough. I would cough very little to begin with, not much at all.

Last Sunday, the runny nose is gone totally, and now I am just in coughing fits. If i try to laugh, I usually will just cough. When I exercise, it only gets worse, so after I run or out in the cold, it only brings the cough out more. These symptoms have remained the same for the last week.

I am at college right now, and I am finally going home Thursday. Wait I am looking for is what I might have, because I honestly could not be bothered to sit at our infirmary for 3 hours just to be told something I already know.

When I go home, I will most likely see a proper doctor, but for now, what can I do to help limit the coughing, and should I take any types of medication, avoid doing something, etc. until I get it properly checked out/to get rid of it entirely.

Thanks in advance everyone!

First and Foremost, we are not Physicians and should not be addressed as such. This is would the reason for my disclaimer in my signature. I am sorry but I wanted to get that right out of the way... sorry or ripping your head off.

Sounds like an Upper Respiratory Infection (URI) to me and can be treated very easily with a steroid prescription provided by your primary care physician...

A way to help is to go and take a nice steamy shower to loosen up the mucus in your chest area (Thoracic cavity) and when you cough it up spit iy out, do not swallow it back down (counter productive) or cough it into a tissue and throw it away.

Personally I would have gone to the infirmary and got it taken care of asap, it would have been easier than suffering through it.
