Scene: You are a decendent of the infamous Adolf Hitler. You believe that he was a cruel man, just as everyone else and share none of his beliefs. People pressure you to change your last name because it still symbolizes hate, your family members tell you to keep it because regardless of how bad he was it is still your family name and it has history in it.
Do you change your last name? and give your reason

For me, any violinist with the name 'Zachary Hitler' seems kinda weird. Violinists should have a weird foreign name, like Vlahovic, Pine, or Heifetz.
Besides, it's my name, and I have a right to what it is. Plus, I'm not planning to have kids, and I don't think it'll be very comfortable shaking hands with someone and telling them your last name is Hitler :P
Altho, if I did keep it, it would be for kicks. :P

i would change it because people would think bad about me and i'd get annoyed being asked if i was related to him, which i'd have to lie about every time. and i wouldnt care much for the rest of my family history if im related to hitler. maybe its because i dont care much about my family history right now.

I wouldn't change it. It happened long enough ago and I wouldn't like to hide who I am.

I would be pretty certain no one would keep the name. The amount of abuse you would get with it. Look at the world we live in, people get harassed over skin colour, sex, nationality. All stuff that makes someone no less of a person.
However being named after one of the most evil men and you think your life wouldnt be made a little bit crap? You might as well call yourself Lucifer Child Eater Hitler McDevil.

I would change it, not because I'm jewish (well, my parents are, I consider myself agnostic), but because I wouldn't want to face prejudice every day of my life. My life would be a living hell. I'd rather change my name to Dahmer, Fish, Chikatilo, Gein, or Manson. (btw, first person to figure out what these names have in common wins rep. ROFL...)

Such idealists...I wouldn't change it. Or perhaps I would, but not because of the drama of having the name, or the judgment's thrown at me or anything of that matter. No, society is society, and is hardly worth saving, though I try every day of my life. but i suppose my virtue is realizably envious, I don't wish to save mankind, only myself. I do not think, “how can i help societyâ€, I work with people, fat, lazy, horrid, open sores, demanding, stingy, greedy, rude, snide and homely people, and they could just as well as die for all the care they will receive from me.
but, no, they would judge, yes, but what is there opinion. They care about money sex and pleasure, at the expense of somebody else's labor.
Keep the name I say, its a symbol, and legacy, however dreary and cruel. Here we see just one sneak peak of a nationalist, right wing fascist, capitalist idealistic fool. Theres more to see then him though.

Being Jewish, I would change my name. Then I would get a good Jewish name like Horowitz.

I keep my name. If I hate Hitler with such a passion, (and I do) I tell everyone hes the most disgraceful human of mankind. They (the people)can believe anything they want, but I still hate Hitler for everything hes ever done.

I would keep it.Hitler may have been responsible for many deaths yet one cannot forget that the man was a genius. He turned the poorest country (at the time) (Germany) into an unstoppable force. Like Napolean before him,his first real mistake was his undoing.
I would keep his name so I could enlighten passerby's and rip away their biased opinions.

I'd absolutely change my last name. It's not like you can send a message to everyone in the world saying "I'm not a neo-nazi, please don't hate me." I think compromising whatever moral principles is worth avoiding all those pain in the ass people.
