I get asked what sort of music I like but find it hard to explain.-In the end I say I like music on a song by song basis?. Anybody-else experience this?
Also, could somebody possibly explain which genre best describes this, it seems rockish, but the majority of the actual songs on my playlist are melodic.

E.g:
Green Day, Phil Collins/Genesis, Thriving Ivory, Coldplay (not the newest album), The Fray and Fleetwood Mac.

Thanks very much. I do appreciate the help people give on here.

Green Day-punk rock, pop punk, alternative rock
Genesis-progressive rock, pop rock, rock, symphonic rock
Thriving Ivory-indie rock, pop rock
Coldplay-alternative rock, post-Britpop
The Fray-alternative rock, pop rock, piano rock, indie rock, rock
Fleetwood Mac-rock, blues, blues rock, pop rock, soft rock

Courtesy of Wikipedia because I'm too lazy to listen to the ones I haven't heard.

Typically I'd just take the ones that overlap the most. That would be pop rock.

You can always describe it in your own way. For instance, my dad has made up his own description for his music, he calls it "pissed-off chicks." Don't know what he calls the rest of his music that includes The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Elton John, etc. but I hear him using that term all the time. He's into Garbage, Stevie Nicks (and yeah, he's into Fleetwood Mac as well), Alanis Morrisette, Tori Amos, Janis Joplin, Fiona Apple, Poe, Ani DiFranco, Beth Hart, ladeeda... at least that's his "pissed-off chicks" part.

I made up the term indiedustrial for my music taste. I'd have to evaluate that again but it's as accurate as a term that generic can be. It's catchy, and about 80% of my music could fall in either/both categories. Add alternative to the beginning and I think we may get close to 100%

How simple, make your own genre. Thanks. :-)
