Hmm I've been going to a sourthern Babtist church sense I was born, so I was raised there. And I know both of you have prob. heard this a million times, but I think that rough spots in my life, are just trials, which I need a little bit of release to get through. I've heard so many people tel me "my body's a temple" and that I shouldn't abuse the lord's property, but honestly, I don't think he'd loan it to me without expecting a little bit of wear and tear. Just my two cents ~Holli

I think it's also a fact because (and I'll try to say this as lightly as possible, I don't mean to offend) people who are depressed or in any way "messed up" are usually a bit more intelligent that your typical "happy" person (not saying they are the only ones who are intelligent) as they are smart enough to see that the world is a little less sunshine and daisies as the ignorance-is-bliss type. Intelligent people are also more likely to be doubters. So it doesn't surprise me one bit.
So yeah, technically, my beliefs are atheistic. I'm currently studying paganism as it's struck my interest but ultimately I'm an atheist.

I definitely agree. The depressed & self harmers are usually more... mature and intelligent than those more 'happy-go-lucky' type people. Although I am Christian - Catholic, I can't agree more.

I am jewish, but pretty secular about it. I guess I identify myself as jewish- and feel free to hate on me for this- because I want to be a minority. Jews are the archetypal outcasts and have been abused as a people for centuries, therefore it seems fitting for me to say I'm jewish. I was also born into a jewish family.
Don't get me wrong though, I don't understand how any god could do what he did to people like me and others on this thread, and also am not a happy-go-lucky person by any stretch of the imagination.

I believe in nothing. Nothing is "out there", there is no Heaven or Hell. There's no after life. When we die, we're gone. That's it. Eternal unconsciousness. We don't float around. We just disappear.

I am a Christian and I self harm. I also have quite a few Christian friends who self harm. I don't think religion has anything to do with whether or not you self harm.

i'm athiest. But I don't agree with the above view of being more mature so not having faith but rather I think maybe it would appear more self harmera are atheist than not because those who are depressed and religious may turn to god and faith as oppose to self harm.

I am a christian and i have an eating disorder, i cut, i struggle with depression and anxiety.
I believe in God whole heartedly, but it just got to a point where the depression was so bad i couldn't get out of bed to even go to church. I wanted immediate relief...i needed something. I still believe in God, but my habits are out of control...
