When my hair was long I just let it be curly and wild, I'd imagine there are products you could look into. Try some websites for hair products/tips.

I've heard from my friends that you can "train" your hair if you mess with it enough over a course of time. Sleeping with a beanie can help make it grow straight.

Dunno about this. The nature of your hair is determined by the shape of your hair follicle and the tube the hair grows through.

In order to keep curly hair straight, i would advise to use preparation product before straightening, then lightly spraying it with hair spray to coat your hair.
Brushing out the hair after using hair spray will allow the hair strands to keep from sticking to each other and look natural.
Try using super hard hair spray that goes dry and powdery after application, not the sticky stuff.
