Im not sure if this in the right section, but I have a problem. When I get nervous i stutter, nod badly but its noticable, and it conviently appears when talking to girls. It only started a couple years ago, so I dont how it was triggered. Anyone have any tips for controlling this? thanks this means alot. :)

Yeah that's just a normal reflex, usually a confidence issue. Nothing to be worried about.

I have a couple of friends that have speech impediments. One only stutters when he's nervous, like you, or when he is trying to talk very quickly. It also comes out when he talks to girls, because he gets nervous. He's absolutely fine with it though, he kind of just laughs it off and doesn't make too big of a deal of it.

My other friend with a speech impediment just can't talk. Or so we say. He mumbles a lot and doesn't pronounce his words very well so nobody can understand what he says unless we ask him to stop and repeat himself. He gets frustrated with it sometimes and throws his hands up and is like "WHY CAN'T I TALK?" but other than that, he doesn't really care. Nobody really cares either.

I actually have a speech impediment that makes it very hard for me to pronounce t's in certain situations. It's incredibly frustrating and I stammer a lot when I read out loud but the best way to counter it is to slow yourself down, breathe and focus on what you're saying one word at a time. You may think you're talking too slowly but sometimes when you get anxious about it, you speed up without noticing. Take your time when speaking and it's a lot easier. People still notice that there are some words I can't pronounce properly ('kitten' turns into 'kiddun' and things like that no matter how hard I try) but they understand far more of what I'm saying when I calm myself down enough to enunciate the rest and don't trip over my own tongue.

I always feel weird when I say certain things, it sounds weird too. I don't think you're alone. I speak perfectly fine in a professional or authoritative environment but it's not always easy when I'm asking for things or being spoken down to by an authoritative body. I think it's probably a confidence thing, but when I'm nervous or scared I tend to do everything quickly, I talk fast, eat fast, walk fast.. :/

What Jo said. Just slow it down a bit, relax. If you get anxious or nervous about it you can speed up your speech and this will only make it worse/more noticeable.
