While they'res many forums (and subforums) about specific subjects, I've noticed that there isn't a "general" section where members can just talk about anything that's on their mind right now, and which doesn't fit in any other categories. Such a section would be nice.

There are lots of places for this. Blogs, TWPR or even ROTW.
There is no point in wasting space when there is really no need for it, just try and fit it in as best you can.

That would be because that's our 'catch all' section. Everything that doesn't fit in any of the other main-page catagories go there, which includes rants.

I think you'll find if you look around, that it's not JUST for rants, there are plenty of other general discussion threads, the main one being the photo album stickied at the top of the page. :)
