Okay, have you guys ever thought about adding them to the site?
They're pretty easy to do. Very useful as well, it'd make me want to post in ROTW a lot more and tech junkies paradise.

I will always support this. I don't see how spoiler tags will harm the site.

You can simply say ACHTUNG SPOILER LESE AUF EIGENE GEFAHR and then write the spoiler content in small letters or so,
I don't know, I don't really like that "spoiler button" thing

I support this because I think it would be good for like random puzzle games and would work well in other areas of the forum.
I cannot see this doing any kind of harm to the site other than maybe someone who just visits VT on a mobile may have some issues but overall its a good idea and I will support this.

Erm, I'd share an opinion but instead I'll ask a question: what are spoilers? O_o

Spoiler = text that is the same color as the site background. In otherwords, invisible unless you highlight it.
I would support this totally, except there's one problem that I see: Everyone has a different background. I could be using the forever blue, and you could be using the black ans gold, so the spoiler for me wouldn't be a spoiler for you.
Otherwise, awesome idea, but I don't see how it can work.

Not really.
Spoilers on forums are collapsable sections of text within a post, making you click a button to expand the section to read the text. (Much like the image resizer works)
This (http://www.fretsonfire.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=32782#collapse) is an example of a spoiler on another forum that has been modified so you can pick the text shown on the button.
I have and will always support this being added. It's an extremely useful tool for hiding large sections of text, creating step-by-step guides that don't take up 15 pages (or posts), or simply hiding something you don't want the entire world to see when they enter your thread. Not to mention it can be used for shrinking the size of people's signatures, letting them fit more text/quotes in the same space.

Huh. That's interesting. On every other forum site I'm on, a spoiler is invisible text, that one has to highlight to see.
In that case, I'm still liking this idea. :p

I support this as well, except I think it would be annoying if used in signatures.
Couple questions:
How would it operate on an interface like Tapatalk?
Is there a character limit for one spoiler? Can there be one (for signatures, perhaps)?

I can't say I like the idea as much for signatures just because it would make it easy for people to hide things that shouldn't be there. Not to say clicking something to show it would be hard, it just might not be the first thought that comes to mind unlike just seeing the stuff that shouldn't be there right away.
Otherwise, it would be great especially for some threads where maybe you want to include some background info in say, like, a help thread but don't want to take away from the main point.

I know the answer to the second question: I think an admin can set whether or not spoilers can be used in signatures. one vB forum I am a member of allows spoilers in signatures.
as for the character limit, don't think there is, but I may be wrong

I agree. I think we should just allow spoilers in posts

Dude, do you know how many threads we posted the previous year and the year before it to suggest spoilers tag? More than fifty. The only excuse is that it needs coding or something or that it is useless or can be abused. How incompetent.

yeah we know that. I remember I suggested this too
I don't think it requires any coding. I doubt it anyways
I don't agree that it's useless :S
People that abuse it should be punished accordingly.

What the hell is tapatalks, is that the android app that if you go on this site it advertises itself and asks you to buy it?

It is a forum app that is compatible with VT.
And yes, I am completely in favor of this idea.

I'm in favour of them too. The ones with the buttins that say "Show spoiler" and show a little box, like a quote, with spoiler text.

I like spoiler tags, but they could be abused in some way I'm sure. Plus on some other forums I see they end up being overused. Who knows, it might not be possible to add to these forums.

no i dont think so man. i don't think that its a good idea to be able to hide anything on the site. especially if used in sigs, I could understand if this was a real technical site or something with a lot of information at once with lot's of shit, but I really don't see the use for it here.

Anyways, the administration brought the Shoutbox back, so I'm pretty chuffed for that then this. I really do hope this does get impemented, but then Ronnie could have a point about things being hidden and not easily accessible, so for now I guess we should make do with;
SPOILER ALERT

Possibly so it could encourage threads with more information, most people don't make giant threads, including myself on this site because of features like spoilers that are lacking since without them it would be incredibly long all together and a eyesore.

oh nooo we can't post things without a special little toy, oh how the world has come to an end. Its so hard to read with words where i don't have to click to make things just pop up. Relax dude.
I understand your point and I get that, but I just don't see the use.

The use is to make things more organized and easier for people to read, it'd sure as hell make the ROTW better if not other forums. It'd encourage people to read the thread because if you haven't noticed most people stray from long passages of text on this forum.

The last part is true. I don't like seeing walls of text, and it does discourage many people from reading the post. I understand though if it could lead to inappropriate things being posted, making it harder to moderate, etc...

I don't see why it would make a difference if it was hidden with the spoiler or it was posted, the information is still there, its still a gigantic post. People pour their heart and soul into making their threads and whether you think its too long or not, they took the time to type it out just to be heard and listened to, the least you could do it read it. Its not that hard.

Well you see a lot of people are not able to read it because a lot of lines make it harder to read, like myself, this is one of the reasons why I wish for this to be implemented I am sorry if me not being able to read or others being lazy or even better debates are not useful or good enough reasons to implement it.

so you're going to blame it on the way people post? That isn't fair, to make people conform to your way? I couldn't see this feature being widely used and would certainly hope that you take a longer thread just as seriously as a tl;dr. Because from the sounds of it, its a tl;dr issue.

The use of spoilers is to let people see the message if they want to. The only forums on here that this could even be useful for is Tech Junkies, and Movies, in situations where you don't want to give away part of a game or a movie.
But other than that, it's just a matter of the way that people post their messages. If you know how to type a good message for ROTW then people will read it. You could break up your message into paragraphs when you move on to a new subject, instead of making a wall of text that is intimidating.

the main use of this forum is for help and advice, to come to get help and to give help for issues in people's lives. I try to keep it simple. Call it generic, call it closed minded, but I feel that this is simply not needed. And I implore users to make long posts, I want them to feel they can make long posts, and for the people that read them, and its entirety is what makes it worth while. making "long story boring" threads with simple responses isn't what it should be about man.
