Is there any plan to upgrade to vb4? VT is seriously behind here, it's kind of annoying for regulars on other forums because the layout and interface is so different.

Like seriously No.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it.
And besides that, just because GovTeen does it, why should we? It's about a hundred dollars to upgrade to a piece of clunky crap. You don't go around telling people to ditch their Blackberries for iPhones just because you have an iPhone and are used to yours when you want to use theirs, right?
If you don't like vB3, fine, you don't have to. Nobody's forcing you to use it.

Im just adding that I love the layout of vt, I don't use the other forums because I just can't stand having to work round them when they look so bad. I don't think it should change even if there was the option.

To be quite honest Nick, every time you have shown yourself here, you complain about this site absolutely non-stop. So to me and I'm sure other people who have seen you make a thread like this no more than 6 months ago, it gets to be very aggravating. You join a site to have a good time and enjoy the fourms, even if its outdated. I refuse as well as I remember Anthony disagreeing with the upgrade. I've used vB4 and I'm superiorly unimpressed. So no it's not going to happen for a very long time and if you cannot get used to that, then run back to gov teen where as they have that. Be happy with what you have, quit complaining or leave. I'm not bothered.

the newer version of vB is good (especially the WYSIWYG), but to be honest, I rather VT not change to it.

What's different between our WYSIWYG editor, and the new one?

I love VT and I would'nt change it (apart from getting chat avalible for apple and androids) bit w/e. It's simply don't like it, don't use it and stop moaning

I would not care to upgrade, and it does not bother me that vt is on a outdated version, I mean its simple and easy to use, why waste money changing that?

well from what I've seen of it, this is what I liked about it -- the new one looks really elegant and smooth. Also, with ours, if you use Chrome, you need to highlight words/sentences to bold/italicize/underline them, then press the button. If you press Ctrl+B/I/U that won't work (it does in IE and Firefox though). On the new one, you can just press Ctrl+B and when you type it's automatically in bold, even if you use Chrome, you know. *shrugs* I just find it easier to just press Ctrl+B when I want to bold a word...

I like this version, the layout is good, the editing is fine. I don't really have any complaints, so why change it?

I've used both vB3 and vB4, and I am perfectly fine with this version! You don't need the latest and greatest to run a forum, and in fact, there are a lot of errors that James need's to fix with vB4, nick. ;)

If we did that, we would be buying more problems. Like buying herpes, for example.

Yeah the editor on the 3.8 version doesn't support webkit browsers (Chrome, Safari). The 4.0 version uses a third party editor which updates it and makes it cross-browser compatible. That is pretty much the only benefit of the new version. On the flip side there are so many reasons not to upgrade.

3 years we've been on this version.
You know what's really out of date? The styles. Forever Blue and Silver blue have been around since 2006 (with the exception of logo changes here and there). The Black/Gold style has been around since 2008. VT overall has looked the same for nearly 6 years.
I laugh to myself sometimes how its looked the same way for so long but the majority population have liked it throughout the years so why bother? Our numbers are growing constantly so it must be doing something right.
In the past social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook like to change things because they "know what's best for us" and "you're going to learn to like it." I always despised that mentality and the management here isn't going to follow that.
When a new version brings new features and design that the membership demands, then they can talk about upgrading or changing. Right now there isn't that at the moment.

That's not fair. I don't post a lot these days, but I do still make posts to be helpful and contribute to discussions from time to time. This question wasn't intended as a complaint and I'm sorry that you take it that way. I honestly don't remember raising this question before, but if I did then sorry for repeating it.

OK, fair enough, I didn't say I hadn't asked before, just that I didn't remember. It's over 6 months ago.
I'm on a number of forums, this is the only one still in the dark ages of vb3. Most forums try to keep up with software releases, this is kind of odd not to. I logged in the other day and it took me ages to work out how to find my pm inbox. That was what prompted my question. I didn't intend to make a big issue out of it.

I know this is locked, but just as a small note in case people didn't know... this isn't even the only benefit for Chrome users... since you can just download this app (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/djajencflkkjdejpmmielapebmcjogoc) for Chrome and then WYSIWYG will work on all vBulletin forums. :) Not for Safari but there we are
