Girls, what's this type of dress called?

It's my favorite look on a girl, but I don't know the name for it.

The top part has two thin vertical straps connected to a kinda form fitting part that goes from chest to torso and then it's less form fitting from around the hips to the bottom which is around her knees. The ones i notice the most are a light color that's got a flower pattern or flowers on it. I call it a sundress, but want to know what the real name is so I don't embarrass my self.

in which case "sundress" is perfectly acceptable

empire waist means a waistline (where the top part and the bottom part meet) right under the breasts instead of on the hips or lower waist. While it has nothing to do with how form-fitting the dress is, it's a possibility. also, they rarely just have straps to hold them up

I must have read the OP wrong. Although the picture you posted does look quite similar to an empire waist. But a lot of empire waist dresses have straps on them, to be quite honest.
