View Full Version : Sex Toys and Age Restriction

Seeing what others think on this subject.
I live in Canada, and recently, I bought a sex toy for a friend that was underage which got me thinking: why should there even be an age restriction law on sex toys?
In today’s day and age, most of the world teaches us that masturbation/self-satisfaction is perfectly alright (which it is), but then they have a law that basically say’s: If your under 18/21 then you can’t buy a sex toy to pleasure yourself.... doesn’t really make much sense. This also gives some people the impression that using toys is something that should be shameful if you are underage (which it isnt).
I know some parents might not want their children to have these, but in my opinion that is being hypocritical. I can guarantee you they probably have a few of their own toys, and if not they still enjoy the act of self-satisfaction. If parents don’t like this, then they need to wake up because we aren’t living in 1920 anymore.
Most people underage either find some other way to obtain a toy, either online or through a person that is of age.
Toys are designed to enhance satisfaction, so why should this be age restricted?

Thats not something I would buy period, why would you buy it for your friend? Does he/she really need it, but I can't tell you what to do. There should be a restricted b/c parents don't want there kids to be using them.

Isn't the age to buy these sex toys the same as it is to have lawful sex? Maybe thats why?

Im not asking if i should buy it or not, i already did. What im saying is why should there be a age limit on them? Why should someone be denied the use of these because they are under age?
Oh and just a fyi.. some girls have a hard time achieving a orgasm without the use of a toy.
Saying there should be a restriction because parents doesnt want their children to have them doesnt make any sense, why should they be in control of how their children satisfy themselfs?

well, my brother is 15 and for his secret santa he got hisd friend a sex toy, my mum was alright about it, not sure how she would be ok wiv getting my brother one.
i sort of agree with there being an age restriction but it should be 16, i think that there is a age restriction as people might think that sex toys might resolve to sex

No need to point that out, I'm not stupid and sex toys aren't the most approprehate things teens or kids(kids as in 13-14) should have, or be using

Didnt mean to offend, was just pointing that out cause not everyone knows these things (how am i suppose to know that you were aware of this :P).
You say its not appropriate, but yet its alright for them to use their hands to please them selfs, just not toys?
Not arguing, just debating :)

Its their hand, toys just seems inapproheate (for the record if you see 15 versions of this I cant spell for my life) at a young age, what they wanna do with their hand is up to them

Haha same here... spell check ftw (i also edit my post about a million times :) ). Each to their own views, i just think its funny how people say its alright to masturbate, just its not alright to use a toy to achieve this at that age. I do understand a parents view, but they also have to understand that their children have the same human urges that everyone has.
(background info: i believe that someone should be able to do what ever they want, and no one should have the right to say they can or cant do something, as long as it isnt hurting anyone or themselfs)

Your right, they dont need toys, but at the same time they dont need to masturbate... but they still do it (making a point :P)
No they dont need toys, no they dont need to masturbate, but should they be told yes to one thing and not the other? is what im trying to convay.

You are trying really hard, to poke my logic, aren't you? :P And your right they don't but your missing the point, once they hit well 19 like you, they can have a party, but underage shouldn't :P

Age of consent and sex toy laws are different. Most laws say you need to be 18 or 21 to buy a sex toy, even though the age of consent might be 16 or 17. I think it's fine to keep the age at 18 for sex toy buying, however, it's up to the actual buyer as to what he/she will do with the product (other than the obvious).

Sex toys aren't really harming anyone, I see no reason to keep the age limit at 18; I think a more practical age would be 16, not to mention the market would probably surge with more horny teenagers buying that shit. But it's not really an issue at the moment; under-18ers can easily get their hands on sex toys anyway.

oh wow masturbating with toys is so different from your hand i'd rather my son shove a light bulb in his ass to pop and bleed from shards

I don't see the point of the government regulating sex toys. It's a victimless crime to sell stuff like that to minors, and I can guarantee you that sex businesses would limit who can buy from them regardless. It just seems like an example of punishing people for something that isn't really a problem.

Lay off the drugs? kind of confused as to what your position is in relation to the topic of disscusion. Im assuming its against age limit? seeing as that way the person could get a toy instead of resorting to house hold objects like a light bulb? (not really taking ur post seriously, just having fun deriving a logical answer from it)

Same here, dont understand the whole notion of it (then again, i dont understand alot of what people do these days >.>). I guess it gives a (false) sense of control to the parents. Or like saph and murdoc said above, age of consent is 16, so i could see it maybe being at 16 instead of 18

I'm only 14 (therefore supposedly less wise and knowledgable if thats a word) but I agree that the age restriction should be at least lowered if not removed. I actually don't think they should remove it, but put it at 14 or 15 (not just because im 14 :) ) because I think to have a sex toy you should have some maturity.
It could also be helpful in the way that people would be able to resort to the toy instead of sex itself with all the bad things that can come with sex (pregnancy, stds, etc.)
You could also turn that around and say that if a person had a sex toy, it would make them want to have sex more because if it feels so good with the toy, it must feel even better with the real thing.
There are ups and downs to both, but overall I think lowering the age limit to 14-16 would be best. This is just my view of it. If you don't agree then thats alright. Thanks for making me think on this one. ;)

Okay so honestly i think that there shouldnt be an age limit on buying sex toys, but from the governments pov i think they are seeing it as more of a self abuse thing than just for pleasure..

The age of consent in my state is 14 so long as the older person is 21 or under.

I think toys ( vibrators, fleshlights, etc ) should be allowed just like how condoms are. It doesn't make sense to me how condoms are allowed but toys aren't. That's like saying, " oh, hey, go have sex, but you can't masturbate! "

I dont see why parents think kids having them is so bad, yes it shows the kids are thinking sexually but isnt it better for it to be a toy than a actual person? (as far as the parents are concerned)

I think its fine the way it is.
Someone brought up that it prevents people from having sex and getting pregnant. Yes that may work in some cases but for some, if not most, people, one thing leads to another and in the end I works in the opposite way.
Plus, I don't even think we need sex toys at all. I mean seriously, how would that make you look if your gf/bf was at your house and found a sex toy? Its most likely going to make you look bad.
