Online friends?

There should be a way to see if any of the people on your friends list are online from your profile page, (like the little green dot that facebook has)

There is, a little yellow bar, the one that says "online" lights up on your profile and on your posts....

Go to the home page and check the bottom of the forum to see the members who are online. Friends will have a +.
It only takes a few extra seconds, so I don't believe the Facebook thing is needed.

Or, on your profile, select see all friends.

if you go to your profile, then the Friends tab, you can tell. but some people are in invisible mode, so you won't be able to tell when they're online/offline unless you see that they have just posted moments ago or are talking to you

there's also the online list at the bottom of the index page. your friends have the + next to their names

Also, you can open your contacts popup, which also shows your friends that are online:

Also, in the forums, that little "v" next to the rep and report buttons will be white if the user is online, and kind of a blue-ish grey if offline.
