tampons :/

im 13 and i used a tampon for the first time the other day and before i used it my period was normal for but once i had used the tampon it got really heavy. i spoke to my mate and they said i might have broken my hymen but i personally don't think i have. anyone else had this or any idea whats happened?

There is definitely a knack to using tampons for the first time! It took me about a year to get properly used to them. I doubt you've broken anything-it's more likely that your body is getting used to it. Remember it works like a plug-once you remove it, the blood it was holding back will come out all at once..when you're using pads it jus leaks out slowly. Keep practising-once you've got used to them, you won't know you're wearing it as it's far enough up in your body so as not to feel it! Keep trying an remember to change your tempon every 4-8 hours an use the lowest absorbency suitable for your flow :) Good luck! SS..x

You need to try change tampons more frequently than this. If it's a heavy flow i say no more than 2 hours max, this is just my opinion but it's better to be safe than sorry (TSS).

Mine is very heavy, more so when i use tampons, i dont know why but i suggest not using them for a bit. See if there is a change, if not then you might just have a heavy flow, it sucks but what can you do. Like said above use the right absorbency you might be using one thats to light, try going the next size up it might make a difference?

4-8 hours is the recommended guidelines printed on the leaflets given with tampons. If you feel happier changing them more often then obviously that's the way to go :). I agree it's better to be safe than sorry, so if you have a particularly light or heavy flow, the times you change them may need to vary :) SS..X

Perhaps its just that you aren't using the right kind of tampon? There's heavy, regular and light. I have to use regular quite often, but when I first started getting my periods I used light tampons.
