What is their view on it?

I know that killing is forbidden even in self defence but what about maiming or disarming or incapacitating someone in a non lethal manner?

- thanks.

Buddhists believe that self-defense is ok as long as minimal damage is done to the person emotionally and physically, and like you mentioned, the other person isn't killed. However, there are different sects in Buddhism, so you probably should do some research.

You shouldn't kill anything. It creates bad karma. Even hurting living things. Self defence, well, it depends. Honestly, you can't exactly get s solid answer on it. And I'm Buddhist.

In my experience it depends on the buddhist. Some believe that you should not intentionally harm a person no matter what. Others believe you can use self defense doing minimum damage. And others believe that your life is sacred and if someone tries to take that life you should disarm and stop them using any means necessary to save both your karma and theirs. Buddhism has many different schools of thought. No one school is more or less correct.
