Morbid Poll: How Will the Human Race End?

Ok, I am totally not a morbid person, but I saw this debated somewhere else, and thought it was interesting. REALLY MORBID, but interesting. I was curious what people thought.

How do you think the human race will most likely end? (And if there are survivors under any of these scenarios, pick the one you think would kill the most people.)

1) Nuclear War

I'll go with biological weapon. There are no major asteroids predicted for a long time, and NASA is experimenting with ways to deflect any that pose a threat. Despite Iran and North Korea, nuclear weapons are being cut by most countries, but drug resistant diseases could be developed and be disastrous.

I think this. It's almost happened in the past (bubonic plague, etc.) and I have no doubt that it will be the end of us eventually.

In all seriousness, I think it will be a natural disaster, though it might be caused by human actions. Something like a global ice age, or an unstoppable contagion like Rawal mentioned.

Yeah, whatever it is, I've always agreed it will be brought upon ourselves. By the time we have something of the same grandeur as the ice age or something we'll have already blown ourselves up.

Well if you ask me we'll definitely die by our own hands, that's for sure. I'd have to choose between nuclear war or some biological weapon. I really hope though it's not the last one, we might all turn into zombies or something.:))

Honestly, nuclear war doesn't scare me. Well, I'm sure that if I were to look up and spot the glint of a warhead plummeting at me at terminal velocity I might be like "Oh FUCK", but I'm sure that alone wouldn't be enough to wipe us all out. My guess is overpopulation will result in insufficient resources to sustain the human race, resulting in the "death phase" of a sigmoid curve. Of course, just my opinion :)

I believe that to be the end of human race as well. There have been some situations similar, and I think that eventually there will be a disease undiscovered that will wipe us all out

I believe nuclear war, because some countries are already creating nuclear weapons to use in war, and if any country were to anger them they could get angry with the world. I think when you talk about very touchy places to go it would be Afghan, because they are creating these weapons for defense on anyone who poses a threat.

I think it will be nuclear because all it takes is Iran shooting a Nuke and then the rest of the world deciding to blindly return volley with nukes for the world population to be decimated via Nuclear Winter.

Too be more logical, we will pulled into a black hole, or even more likely, our sun will massively expand in a few million years, reaching the end of it's life cycle, and incinerating most of the planets as it engulfs them in red-hot, fiery plasma before possibly going into Supernova and releasing a large explosion of energy billions of times stronger than any atom-bomb.

Greed. Fear. And laziness. Perhaps others. Humans are motivated by self-interest. We criticise America, other first world countries and the wealthy for their selfishness and exploitation of the poor yet were another power to be dominant, it, too, would receive criticisms.

The "world" will not end. Not because of measly little specks of dust like us humans. The human race may cease to exist as it is now but the "world" will cary on. Humans will, most likely, destroy themselves. Either through the abuse of our environment or through the abuse of each other and ourselves. Or perhaps we'll last long enough for our world to expire. Maybe we will even sustain ourselves until we find our way to another dimension. However we are unlikely to remain the exact same biological species.

Change is a constant. Human beings as they are - cannot last for infinity.

I voted 'Other' since I believe it will end due to a World War... maybe WWIII or WWXXXIII. But I cannot really say I believe it will end due to biological or nuclear war. Then again Y2K might come back and computers and microwaves might turn against us (or robots if we have them when this new "Y2K" happens)... anything could happen but I believe it will be due to some kind of war... Maybe a war with aliens lol who knows.. but War will be the end of us imo.

I voted nuclear war. It just seems so much more likely that some country (such as North Korea) will launch a nuke in cold blood and we will retaliate causing a nuclear winter.

And for all of you virus lovers...it's nearly impossible for a single virus-no matter how contagious-to wipe out the entire human race. There are still isolated communities in the rain forest who have no knowledge of the outside world, and chances are there is at least one person with a mutation that will allow them to kill the virus.

Otherwise, an asteroid is most likely. In 2029 the asteroid Apophis is expected to pass within the orbit of geostationary satellites, maybe hitting us in later years.

To be more percise a terrorist organization could devolop a virus that has a long incubation period and spread across the world before anyone shows symptoms its entirely possible and easier than you may think i mean look at H1N1 it people knew it exsisted and still the world took a reasonable hit from it why because it takes a while to make a vaccine now think of something thats designed to be complex and drug resistant and well we would all be infected before reserches could even hope to have a vaccine.

I would say some contagious virus, but after playing pandemic and finding it insanly hard to kill off the world because of boarders and airports closing.

we have to remember though, to kill off the worlds population the origional problem doesnt have to kill the whole world, just a percentage. We are so relient on eachother, that if a certain amount of people got wipped out, the rest of us would soon follow.

Water is a renewable resource. It will not run out unless aliens raid the planet for our resources. All though this is possible it is unlikely.

Creatures retain water though, so technically we could all slowly die off due to lack of water for each person, this however wouldn't end the human race it would only dramatically hurt it.

I say nuclar war. But really anything could happen to destroy the earth, even a zombie apocalypse.... I don't believe it will happen, but it's still possible. If you want to get really technical, even you can destroy the earth
