Do you think school uniforms are good or bad?

The good side for me is not having to worry about what I have to wear each day. No competition of one person dressing better than another.

Bad side have to wear a skirt all the time, not fun in the winter. Think its more unfair for us girls than the boys.

It seems odd that you would have to ware a skirt in the winter, does seem a bit unfair, but otherwise I like your point, its not productive to worry about other people judging you by what you wear.

i would say they are good.if everybody is dressed the same then you can't rally have the piss taken out of you for what you are wearing. plus i find other people in them a turn on sometimes which might wired.

I dont mind my schools uniforms. the guys and the girls practically wear the same thing... Collared shirts with khaki pants or shorts and cargo shorts for guys
Rather wear my personal clothes tho ;D

-Kids can be really cruel and so uniforms can prevent some nasty comments.

-Uniforms promote a sense of unity

-They represent the school: If your school chess team does well in a tournament (for example) and everyone sees, it becomes good publicity. On the other hand, it can work in the opposite direction hehe!

-However, uniforms can also be really expensive and can prevent you expressing yourself through fashion. But there are lots of ways to express yourself I guess. Can't always rely on clothing.

I sorta wish we had them

Yeah they're ok but my school is really strict on uniform. Boys ties have to be prefect and no trainers. Girls skirts have to be below the knee and not right to the floor, trousers can't be tight below the knee. PE kit sucks as well but yeah i'd much rather be wearing my own clothes.

I think uniforms are ok, cuz you don't have to keep up with your mates in the latest designer clothes.

On the down side, when your somewhere where you should not be, like in town instead of school, then you stand out like a sore thumb :(

Questions for Both Boys and Girls  Fashion

This isn't puberty related, so I'm putting it into the Fashion section. Look over the individual section rules - they give example of topics that are okay to post in that section, if it doesn't fit that section post it in the appropriate one.

My school has a summer and winter uniform (summer; white polo, Winter; Shirt and tie), the summer uniform is the best, but it is really annoying the winter is so uncofatble, (you have to tuck your short in, do your top buttons up, have your tie a certain lenght)

OH yes I agree with that most of the schools where I live do not have them.If I go out someplace after school without changing I have people staring at me ,mostly males and that can be creepy feeling.

my school doesn't require uniforms and I like that, but I can see the benefits of school uniforms. however I personally wouldn't like it if my school started to require school uniforms......

i find its perfectly ok to have uniforms infact even if we did have uniforms id were khakis to school but at my school its unfair to the guys as in the summer we cant were shorts and girls can were a skirt or pants so girls have more clothing options

I think it's ok, you get used to them pretty quickly. Our school is pretty strict with them but it would be nice just to wear a pair of jeans to school once :P

My school uniforms are really unflattering, and make me look even fatter than I am. Also, in general they take away from our creativity and personal expression. Also, comfort. That's a huge issue.

In Australia, uniforms are a must. Although, i wish i don't have to wear them. I have a LOT of designer which i want to wear to school. I want to be an individual, and i express it through my classic, color co-ordinated outfits. Nothing to outrageous, nothing too dull or old-ish.

I disagree. I'm in WA, and the local public high school does't need uniforms.

I don't mind our uniform, but I absolutely hate shorts. Years 7-9 are forced to wear shorts during the summer :P

I used to have to wear a uniform when I went to Catholic school. I really didn't mind it. Sometimes I kind of miss it, simply because at my school it's the norm to see guys wearing their pants sickeningly low. No one wants to see your underwear. But besides that, I think that wearing what you want expresses your individuality, and that's important for teenagers.

I think it's unfair. It's self expression for crying out loud.

;)I totally agree and at my school we can customize a bit so that gives it some personal touch. Think about it how many jobs require a uniform restaurants,UPS or post office is an example.

Oh please. It's just fucking clothes. You can express yourself all you want outside of school, but follow the rules during it. Nothing unfair about a school having dress code. Personally, I wish mine had one. It's better than having to see tits and ass hanging out of people's clothes.

Mine isn't bad. But it's very simple. With no tie and things.

I agree. But i would like to be able to present myself formally at school. I think the uniforms are designed by children with a love for bright colours.

School uniforms don't exist in France, but I wore a uniform when I was girl scout (9-12 yo) and I liked that !

Personally I dislike school uniforms. I feel like it takes away an individuals self expression. People express themselves in many ways and the way they dress is one of them. However, it does have some benefits as well. If I remember right I believe it decreases the likelihood of school fights, but I have the memory of a gold fish lol

I like uniforms, so you don't have to worry of what to wear the next day! I've had uniforms since kinder to grade 4, now I don't have uniforms.

There are pro's and cons to this. I think that they shouldnt have uniforms but a stricter code... Cause at our school we have people in sweats and tanktops or other clothes that arent the most attractive... :yeah:

I'm actually happy that I have a uniform. Just as you said, it does make it easier to find out what I'm going to wear to school. Although with my schools uniform, the only choice I have to make is which of the five different color polo shirts (blue, red, white, green, or pink) I should wear each day with my khakis. I personally don't think there is anything bad about a uniform that is worth mentioning. You just wear it 8 hours out of the day (monday to friday) and then go home and change.

Before I was homeschooled the private school I went to had uniforms. I didnt like them at the time but now I kinda of miss them because I hardly ever had to worry about my favorite clothes being dirty. HOWEVER! our uniform colors were TERRIBLE!! white or red polos with Khaki pants =( made EVERYONE look HIDEOUS!! AHAHAHA! =) My school closed a few years ago and I miss it terribly!

In Australia, practically every school has uniforms. It's pretty much unheard of to not have uniforms. For a uniform, I like mine. Blue kilt and white shirt for girls, and grey pants and white shirt for boys.(Seniors) :)

Other schools arn't so lucky. There's this one school who have to wear brown tunics and yellow shirts... eeeeewwwwwwww! Or private schools where they have to wear stupid hats and blazers. Lol.

But since we don't have a choice, I'm happy with my uniform.
