I didn`t really know where to post this, but since it`s about football I thought it should go here.
Anyway, my question is as it says in the title: Why do football (soccer) players come out with children to the pitch, before a match?

There called mascots its for the kids really so they can come out onto the pitch with the team they support, imagine how happy you would be if you got to run out onto the pitch, as part of the team

Kinda like a charity event for the fans i guess
