Which country is the best and what nationality? Why? Keep it civilized and be respectful and respect other people's views.

Well in my mind the United States is the best. But thats only because I live here. I think if I went overseas, I would possibly change my mind.

I like it here because of the freedom here and how everything is. What I don't like about it is the people running the country. So many bad decisions have been made and we are trillions of dollars in debt. BUT, they have made good decisions too which is what has helped put us where we are today.

Lots of great things are here in the U.S., but lots of great things are in other countries too.

I will always stick up for the U.S. and thats because I live here.

Lebanon, because it's the country i was born in. And it boasts very impressive intellectual and cultural achievements.

No country is the best, the best country is the one you were born in, no matter how unbiased you try be, you'll always think where you're from is the best.

you are wrong. There are best countries based on merits.

And for that, I pick Sweden.

They say Singapore is- its wealthy & democratic, good weather, diverse people, its clean and environmentally sound and society seems to run almost perfectly.

As someone who lives there, I can tell you that is ABSOLUTELY is not.
The weather is terrible, for starters, and we don't have basic human rights like freedom of opinion/expression, right to gather or right to a fair trial.
The press is also heavily censored and elections are heavily stacked in favor of the current government.
I'm probably going to get arrested for having said that, but idc. Someone needs to know what it's like here.
Personally I think Finland! Weather, wealth and HUMAN RIGHTS!

Yeah I agree. But some countries like Cuba are corrupt because of the government which is what brings the popularity of it down.

I think all have their pros and cons, certain countries would compare well but others just feels like apples to oranges. As the second poster said, all of them. And then for preference you have to take pride into account too, because knowing more about your own country (maybe?) could skew opinion.

The thing is that America is a hated country by other countries.

He speaks the truth. Sort of.

Really though, it's not so much hate as that we see the faults in your country that you look over as a patriot. And the rest is stereotyping. The French are notorious, but they actually don't hate Americans like they're said to. Just straightening that out for the sake of my French relatives. It's a myth. Like the "Brits have bad teeth" one. You just have high expectations. :P

I can't completely bash America because A. That's not very nice and B. There are parts of America that are actually really lovely. I don't happen to live in one of those parts though. But what I hate is actually the people who love America so blindly they can't see anything wrong with their country.

Can't say which is "best." I'm partial to England of course but there's no best country. My favourites are all in Europe though. :P Canada's cool too.

Croatia is the best, Google "Battle of Vukovar"... we were invaded by a neighbouring country.. heavily out numbered and we made them retreat and defended our homeland.. lost a lot of lives during that war.. the neighbouring country who invaded... invaded because we wanted independence from a united country known as Yugoslavia... the invaders and aggressors of this war... did unspeakable things in the Croatian town of Vukovar... they killed the old and the young and they even raped kids (boys and girls) as young as 2 years of age. They put innocent people in camps and took them prisoners, many of the women were raped and everyone was tortured. Sad things have happened in that country, but the men and women who defended it and died for it (even the ones who are still alive) are the greatest heroes in the world, truly inspirational.

I would say Australia, but they censor GTA and small tits, so I can't back that completely. Thailand is a very nice nation with a ridiculous amount of culture and history. The United States, of course, is a great country that also has a distinct culture, nice people and it's a comfortable place to live; the same can be said for Canada and most of Europe... Singapore is a beautiful city, but they have some pretty horrible corporal punishment.

I can't make up my mind.

I honestly can't make up my mind either. every country has its pros and cons, things that make it really good and things that make it really bad.

maybe Taiwan, it has the lowest poverty rate
maybe the US...freedom and liberty and all that good stuff xP

I think that Canada is a wonderful country, because they have a great government, beautiful landscape, their weather isnt the best, but it isnt really such a huge factor. The government pays for health care, which I think is amazing. I live in USA, and it has some great cities, landscapes, and monuments, but the government has been making some horrible choices, and I think that that should be accounted for majorly.

Austria, the place is amazing. I've never been there personally, but I've heard Vienna is the best city in the world, according to murder, crime, car crash, education, traffic etc etc.

Plus, that place got a lot of history and a temperate climate. The architecture in Austria is amazing as well.

I say Canada because i live there.

According to the UN, however, Norway is the best. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_Human_Development_Index

(personally, I think that the US should have been ranked much lower.)

Our military can kick any other country's ass! We've proved it twice in the last century by winning both world wars after France and Britian totally sucked it up and came to us on their knees begging for our help.

Everyone's saying USA just because it's rich and big and popular.
I would say there isn't a best country because each country has it's highlights of inventions, sports, foods, clothes, style...etc
But I do like small, hot islands with nice shops.

I can see benefits and drawbacks on any country. Like England, We probably have the best democracy but lots of our houses are small, Victorian ones. Also, we have pretty bad employment rates. Spain, amazing country with great views but terrible economy and one of the most corrupt governments of Europe. America, the only country not founded on religion. However, there is a past (and present) of racism and lots of poor communities are ignored.

My vote would have to go to england on the pure purpose that we have the best democracy in the world. You are free to do what you want (Within reason). For example, I could go out today and protest about anything I wanted, but in some countries you could be killed. If I don't like the prime minister, I can wait 4 years and vote for another one. However, some more drawbacks with England. Our reading and basic maths rates are lowering.

But I do like small, hot islands with nice shops. The US is not a rich country. You do realize America is in debt equalling TRILLIONS. Right? I don't know how you value money but a trillion dollars is a fuckload of money.

IDK, I live in the USA. I don't know enough about other countries to say. Plus, things I value probably wouldn't be what other people value to the same degree.

For me it would have to be a place where people have choices, not a lot of limitations like being born into a certain station in life. A place where there are freedoms, where life is valued. Where opportunity exists. A place that is safe, values the individual and education.

Well I was born in America, never been out of the country. So for that reason I say that the best country is in no way shape or form america. Because of the people that live here, the people who run us and the complete intolerance to non white non Christians and gays. Just about every thing.

I say a toss-up between Sweden, the United Kingdom, and a variety of Western European countries. Sweden because of the socialised life and ACTUAL equality. The U.K also because of the mix of traditional (or at least somewhat traditional) lifestyle in the countryside and villages, along with the wide array of multiculturalism in cities such as London.

Canada (well, certain areas of it) comes in as a close 4th or 5th, depending on the number of Western European countries come preceding it.

Every country has it's pros and cons you really can't determine what country is the best.
Someone will always disagree.

I've been to many parts of the world, mainly north and south america and also alot of europe with my parents. If you look past the financial state of each country and look at how the people are, how they live, and how up to date the cities are; I would say its definately the U.S but with places like Brazil close behind.

As many have said before, every country has its good and bad points. I'm British and I like our history and our political system. We're a generally tolerant country and our head of state is someone without political leaning (The Queen) so if a prime minister goes loony, she can advise them. I like Germany and the Netherlands because of their cultures and politics but I also like Liechtenstein because of its beautiful scenery (and Princess Marie replied to my letter).

I'm not sure about the USA, it seems to be a bit too divided. It preaches democracy and fairness yet there's a lot of tension between groups. I'd probably have a different opinion if I lived in the US though.
