I know this has probably been posted before by somebody else
Im thinking about trying out for my school's swim team next year so I was wondering if you have to shave all your body hair to swim faster?
If you have to shave all your body hair what do you use (a regular razor, body groomer, etc.)?

most coaches believe that anything that can cause even the slightest bit of resistance can slow you down...body hair being the biggest culprit. my coach requires it but I'm not sure if all require it or if they do only during certain times of the year....hope it helps.
oh and I use nair on my legs but regular shaving cream on my nether regions and arms.
good luck1 Swim team is ALOT of fun but ALOT of hard work

alot of swimmers shave in order to shave precious seconds of their time due to resistance. so technically, yes.

I would recommend using a hair-removal cream (like veet or nair) to remove the hair. It's kind of awkward to buy it cause the cashier looks at you funny if you're a guy, but after that it's pretty much smooth sailing, and you don't have to worry as much about missing a spot.
Warning though, that stuff smells REALLY bad.

if you decide to take the hair of your privates do NOT use nair or anything like that...you can actually get a chemical burn because the skin is rather senstive....a girl on our team tried it and had to go to the dr's because of it...

You don't HAVE to shave your body hair to swim faster but many swimmers do shave/wax their body hair. I was a good swimmer back in highschool but I never waxed or shaved any of my body hair to swim faster. I'd only ever wax my arm/leg hair for money lmao (I'm not hairy anywhere else really), but I wouldn't shave or wax it for swimming since I am not a competative swimmer. But if I was competing in swimming races I would wax and not shave since shaving leave some little prickles of hair sticking out of the skin. Also if you're allowed to wear a full wet suit and a swimming cap or something, they will help you swim faster and smoother.

I shave all of my body hair every few days. Makes life swimming so much easier.

You can, our school does it for the state meets, unless your really really into swimming like your going for records and you swim 2-3 times a day then it's not really worth it, especially if your just starting out.

i think if you make finals you have to shave, but most likely not if its just normal season, unless your school is really competitive
