Okay, I bought some Vibram Five Fingers Bikila the other day http://s3.amazonaws.com/VibramFiveFingers/m349-hero.jpg
I got them for $65 using my own money off of Amazon, and I decided to keep them secret from my mom for a few days. When she found them under my bed yesterday, she cut them up because she said that they needed to be doctor approved. Yes, she cut them up to pieces and now they're in the trash. Obviously, ya'll can assume how I feel... Even my dad said I could buy them. I kept them secret because she preaches that I have a condition that "no other kid has."

Most doc's don't know a lot on those five fingers more European ones due they're more popular over there. But I have high arches and my physical therapist told me to get those for running they are the best possible shoes you can wear that you can buy besides going bare foot. Due to the fact that they promote natural form and alignment of the joints in your legs, hips, back and rib cage. There's a lot of research done by the doc's in europe. Just google that and show your mom also my doc said there really bad for you but I would trust a physical therapist on that issue. If you have a physical therapist near by stop in and ask them if they know anything about them and a orthopedic foot doc/surgeon would also be a good resource again they recommended those because of my three knee surgeries.

Wow, your mom sounds really uptight (to use words that won't possibly offend you) I would tell her that what she did was wrong and go to the doctor, hopefully probing that they're ok. Out of curiosity, what incredibly rare condition do you have?

Wow your mom sounds like really strict, I think it was wrong of her to cut up those shoes but maybe next time don't do it behind her back. But thats weird of her to say they have to be doctor approved, she should have tooken them, went to your doctor and if you couldn't have them, return them

I have a minor case of Scheuermann's Disease with Schmorl's Nodes(abnormal curvature of the spine). I call it minor because I never have back pain and I had never even heard about the disease until an MRI of my spine to find out why my right arm didn't swing in tune with my left arm when running or walking during an exam.

That's a bit insane. Especially given the money you spent.
I could never wear those.

@Justin98 My mom likes the shoes, but she believes in arch supports, heel lifts, and heavily cushioned shoes to "keep me on my feet." Hence, why she made her decision to cut them up.
@ImCoolBeans I've done all I could do from my side of things, from showing several studies showing the benefits of minimalism and barefoot running to just using common sense to explain things. A doctor's explanation is the only thing that will change her viewpoint.

They aren't the new style, but for some reason I received a lot of attention in the good way when I had them, lol.
