It's iTunes man, it's a slow bloated piece of crap software that Apple really doesn't care about.
iTunes has opened and ran slowly on just about every computer I've seen it installed on, even a new/clean install of it is slow.
If you want it to open fast, get a Mac, otherwise, it'll be slow as hell no matter what :P

Yeah, iTunes brings a load of services on your computer, and makes it take ages to start up. Two I find really annoying that take ages to open is the "Bonjour" service (WTF) and the "Apple Mobile Device" service.

I wish there was another to put music on my ipod but apple says thats only way. And it really pisses that you have to pay $1.29 for a song wht the hell. Thats why i use frostwire

It's iTunes being a slow, bloated piece of crap software.
Being quite bloated, it tends to suck up a lot of your memory (RAM) while running, slowing other things down.
One solution would be to add more memory (RAM), or upgrade your existing RAM if you want to speed some things up.

As far as I know, the Bonjour service is what Apple uses to detect when an iDevice is plugged in.

The fact that it doesn't natively support FLAC files makes it instantly out of the question for me. But anyways, iTunes is a slow programs, very. If you don't need to use it then I highly suggest you don't. The only reason you'd use it is if you buy from the iTunes store >.> or have an iPhone/iTouch. Most of the older gen devices don't need iTunes as 3rd party software can put music on.

I thought Bonjour was a printer service.

I think that Rhythmbox/GStreamer has a iPod plugin. Yeah, it does. (http://projects.gnome.org/rhythmbox/)
However, since most Linux(and BSD too, I think) distributions offer their binary packages, only the source is available, which is a big pain to compile on Windoze. You can look for a windoze package, but don't get your hopes up.

Bonjour is more networking than printer-specific I think.

If you want a quicker program to put songs on your iPod, download the CopyTrans suite.

Try going through your library and getting rid of old songs you dont listen to anymore.

Also try having a minimal amount of programs open at least when you start iTunes up. I generally takes lots of resources to load before easing off on your computers resources.

Simple solution, use a different software. I've started using VLC a lot. Winamp also isn't that bad.

Instant Click Boom for me :p
Prolly just a cluttered bunch of temp files on ur comp
Try CCleaner and clean those up
Also it depends what else you have up and of course your hardware (processor and RAM)

Mines pretty fast. 5 seconds and its up.
Could it be a mixture of computer speed and the amount of songs you have?
I have something like 7,000 but my computer is fast.
Even on apple computers I've never seen it instant, but I don't mind my 5 second wait.
How many songs do you have and how powerful is your computer?
