I don't think I've seen a suggestion thread about this...

On other forums I belong to, there is a date beside the OP and below the title of the thread on the forum board that shows when the thread was first started. This would be handy to help prevent unnecessary bumping, and just tell the users when the thread was started even before they open it.

The main post date you need to pay attention to to prevent bumping though, is the last post date, which IS on every page.
Not that I'm against this, it's actually quite annoying that the thread creation date isn't displayed.

But the last post is what is used to determine if something is a bump, not the OP.

I actually made a suggestion on this (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=98581). I support this suggestion

I was always aware it was the last post that was counted, although I could see the use in this if we were to change the rule to when the thread was created, yet in turn this may result in more bumping because we would mostly be used to the old system of the last post is what counts

Well, I've seen quite a few threads that were started months or years ago, but because one person didn't see how old the thread was and posted, everyone else followed and posted in an old, irrelevant thread.

I see your point though. I think it would, however, help the newer users who accidentally post in years old threads not do so.

But the question is will noobs read it? Do they know the bumping rule? Chances are nope.

Yeah but the thing is that no body pays attention to the last post's date, thats the one that matters. Not the OP's post date.
