I need help ASAP.

I woke up this morning and my PS3 wasn't on. This was weird because i always leave it on standby (with the red-light on). So I checked the plug sockets and the up stairs electric, but everything was working normally apart from the damned PS3.

Can anyone please help me and tell me what's going on and how to solve the problem? The standby button won't even turn on.

Was there a power surge?

Not that i know of. I mean, the television and my phone charger is plugged into the same extension and those still work.

Anyone?

If you have a fat PS3 their is a switch on the back.

First, plug it directly into a known working wall socket (Not through a power strip). If it works, then you know it's most likely that the outlet on the power strip is bad.
If that doesn't work, try unplugging it and leaving it unplugged for a few hours to let the electricity inside it completely drain out, then plug it back in and try again.

Also, it /is/ very possible that there was a power surge over night, even if nothing else connected to the same power strip was affected.

1) Turn it off if it's not off already.
2) Un plug it for about 5 minutes.
3) Plug it in.
4) Press and hold the power button until the system is in standby (it will turn on but keep holding until it goes into standby again)
5) Press and hold it again until you hear a double-beep and you should be in safe mode.

I've done this and unfortunately to no avail. I'm going to try the safe mode thing, but speaking to some work colleagues, they recon the console is fried. I can only know for sure by tomorrow morning.

sounds like a power surge, sadly its probably fried. PS3's have been known to do this :(

Well that sucks. I've always thought about buying fricken surge protectors, but thought it was probably so rare it didn't really warrant the extra cost. My fail.

Unplug the PS3 completely. Hold down the power button (This will allow the capacitors to drain) then try.

Think I already tried that, but it won't hurt to try again.

if this is one where you can replace the power cord, that may be the case. I know that the PS2 and PS1 have the cords that can be replaced, so if one broke all I would need to know is that I may jsut need a new cord. Thats why I always keep a spare when it comes to these kinds of things.

I agree.

The fat PS3s use the exact same power cable as almost every desktop PC. It's worth the shot, saving you time and money getting it fixed.

Well, you're better off frying the $10 surge protector than frying the playstation itself.

Right, I forgot about this thread, but it's due an update:

I got the power lead and the console's power supply changed and it works alright now. I still haven't bought surge protected adapters but that'll be the next thing on the list as of tomorrow.

Well I am glad you got it sorted, I have never had this issue, but I would be pissed if I did have it.
