So after my workout I diet drink any whey protein. But 40 hours after my workout I did. Did it shave any effect? I was still sore though.

This can be argued all day tbh. A lot of people argue the best way.
I usually have mine at night before bed, because when you sleep that's when your body regenerates or whatever. A lot of people have it in the mornings as well, but I can't brig myself to have it in the morning
It works for me the night after a work out, If you had worked out in the 40 hours between the original workout and the protein it may have had its usual effect, but if you didn't, it probably did minimal difference.
How often do you work out?
If you work out 5 days a week it may have been ok?

Remember your body still start repairing itself naturally right after your workout but as Wakesetter03 said, your body tends to do most of its repair when you're asleep, and during the first phase of sleep (typically 10pm-2am)

Consuming protein off a protein shake isn't too different compared to consuming any other form of protein (other than it tastes like shit most of the time). I'd recommend you have it within 30 minutes after your workout though, and make sure you sustain plenty of protein duuring the day, especially at night. I try and have a good chunk of red meat just about every day for dinner nowadays and even that works.

I agree with above. That's what my Doctor said too about your body repairing between 10pm and 2am!! Not that it ever convinced me to have early nights though.
I'm just starting to work out myself. What are the advantages of taking whey protein over any other protein source?

what ive been taught was a 10 minute window as soon as you finish your workout where your body is craving alot of nutrients. But if you cant just eat within an hour. As soon as i finished my weights id immediately drink my protein shake along with taking some fast digesting carbs, do cardio, then go home and wait about 20-30 minutes and then eat a real meal consisting of a fist size lean protein and depending on what stage of carb depleting either 1/2 to 1 cup of brown rice
