On the subject (even though this woman isn't a minor) The US is one of the only Countries in the world that sentences children to life, and until a few years ago, executed them.
I was just saying that this shouldn't be some sort of big deal that she got sentenced to life for murder, as she is an adult.

Honestly i dont care if she was'nt 18. You cant go around killing people without getingg a suitable punishment so life is jail sounds good .

God the girl was 9. What makes a 15 year old act like that?
It kills me to see storys like this, wtf's up with humanity.
Tbh now she's 18 and an adult im glad she is being locked up i mean if she got an "ahmazing feeling" from it before who knows if she could go do it again.

This disgusts me. How could you kill someone!

So they're calling that second degree murder now? I believe you know, digging the grave in advance shows suitable planning. She shouldn't have the possibility of parole, especially from her diary entry showed no remorse.

She's 18, she's not a teen according to law. Bad article.
But.. She very clearly murdered a 9y/o and she ADMITTED it. I think the sentence is pretty fair. And I hope she gets some mental help.

Good. She's probably saying sorry to the family because she's going to jail and got caught. People like that make me sick, especially a little 9 year old who had another 71+ years of life! At least she didn't get executed by lethal injection, but she'd deserve that too.

I think it's a suitable punishment. if anything, I'm glad she didn't get the death penalty. life imprisonment is what she should get, not an easy way out

Only thing I disagree with for the case is that she has a chance to parole. >.<

I'm disgusted at the comments, this girl is obviously mentally ill, it's a sad world we live in, we treat children like shit and then get suprised when they do something like this. It's like a guy nearly stabbing me to death, and i shoot him, and he says, "how could you??"

When did this story say anything about this girl being abused? Yes, it's obvious, she has problems, but she killed a little girl in cold blood and thought it was "Ahmazing"

You obviously didn't read the article... She grew up with 2 junkie parents, one of them went to prison, and god knows what happened while she lived with them.

I grew up with two junkie parents as well. I've never killed anyone. I think the punishment she received is what she had deserved.
At least in prison, she won't be able to hurt anyone and she might get mental help.

Throwing her in prison won't do jack shit, I bet when she gets parole the first thing she'll do is kill again. She needs to be put in a mental hospital.

i think its complete bullshit. i mean im sick of all these murderers getting away with a slap on the wrist. like some1 goes and has the intent to kill some1, and kills a human on purpose, you should have your life taken. if you take some1s life, yours should be taken end of story. our system is so fucked up, somebody goes and does a B&E while high, and get life or something stupid like 80 years. yet a gang banger goes and guns down a teen and get 25 years. its so fucked up. i think every state should have the death penalty. and every state should have every possible way of execution, by firing squad (only a few states have it) electric chair, hanging, gas chamber, and lethal injection. they should also be tortured, humiliated and killed the same as they did to their victims. if i was president and made the rules, nobody would ever commit a crime. like prisoners have tvs, Facebook, internet, and all these luxuries, their lives are better than half of the people on disability and who are homeless. their animals and should be treated like animals, locked in a cage for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. (i have very strong views and opinions, some people say their to extreme, but the fact of the matter is, nobody would ever commit another crime if they actually had to be punished. our criminal justice system should be like all the other countries on other side of the world...eye for and eye.)

May I ask, have you ever been in gaol? Have you ever felt the chill of the metal bars on your cell window? Have you had to suffer 50 years of solitary confinement in complete darkness while your sanity slips away? I think not.
I think the sentience is fine. Nobody should be killed for their actions.

Hey we've just literally done about this in RE and although like I said I absolutely hate what she's done im firmly against you. Ever heard of the saying "an eye for an eye makes the hole word blind"? Well there is no reason to take someone's life, it's not ours to take even if they have murdered someone. Torturing is just inhumane and it's not right, yes it might give someone else the justice they need but people have rights.
I do agree with you on the prison thing. Prison dies seem to have lots of luxuries that people definitely don't deserve but there is not much we can do about that. At least if they are locked up they are not going to cause any trouble and she does having 30 years so hopefully she will have learnt something.
You don't know nobody would comment a crime. Yes it's more unlikely if people will if the punishment is death but it won't stop people completely. You cannot stop everyone, you just have to deal with people that do in the best way possible and in my opinion capital and corporal punishment definitely isn't the way to go.

the girl needs rehabilitation. honestly, like real help. you can't lock someone up and throw away the key... it is just a waste of a life. people need to be compassionate and want to help offenders, as often they don't really want to rationally do what they do. the truly unsafe should be kept away, but most should be rehabilitated and put into rehabilitation communities. prison is not the answer and the US government in particular does not understand that

Agreed. Considering she is quite young and there may be hope for recovery, relative to much older psychopaths who are significantly more engrossed in their selective reality of murder and what not.

She was 18, and therefore it fits that she was tried as an adult. As much as I fantasize about killing some people, I would never actually do it, and I'm personally glad that she got life in jail.
Also, killing a little girl is positively disgusting. Especially since the girl never wronged her.
What's wrong with the world?

She is an 18 year old ADULT. Not a minor. Therefore, there should be no issue. If anyone would like, I can put in a paper I wrote on the topic.

*sigh* my question is how can some of the people whom have commented on this not see that when she did murder the nine year old, she was 15 and now that she is 18 she can be tried and no matter what her sentence is, it will never bring back the little girl who had to die because the now 18 year old wanted to know what it was like to kill someone.

If she was 15, she shouldn't get life in prison. The mentality of a 15 year old has not matured yet to the point at which they can fully understand what they are doing, so thus it should not be given such a penalty.

when she was 15, she wanted to kill someone to see what it feels like....are any lightbulbs coming on to realize that that is NOT nomal for the mentality of a 15 year old?

Honestly, if you kill someone, you should be expecting consequences. If she proved that she was mature enough to take a life, she should be mature enough to face the aftermath. And if she isn't right in the head, which doubtless she isn't, well she sure as hell isn't safe in society. I'm failing to see how a mental institution would be any better than life in jail, anyways. Rehabilitation? Let's remember that she killed a young girl with no other motive than that she wanted to know what the experience was like. Are we forgetting how fucked up that is? I'm perfectly approving of the life sentence, gods help us if she ever gets back out again. This isn't some cute little situation that can be mended with compassion, that stuff can only go so far. She killed a child. She needs to be put away.
In conclusion, I approve of the sentence.
