so, recently. i was in a car accident, my friend(drunk) who was driving passed out. i took the wheel.(yes, im 13,well 14 in a month. it was a stupid choice) it was late and dark, idk what happened, but there was a red light. all i remember is i couldnt stop so i turned to the right, and felt myself floating in a sea of white.(that rhymed :-) ) i just wanted to share this song by Thrice because it has something to do with what happened and somehow it makes me feel better abiut the situation. anyways heres the vid. http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F&gl=US#/watch?v=P1erTZ8MHxQ. the lyrics are :
Late night, brakes lock, hear the tires squeal
Red light, can't stop so I spin the wheel
My world goes black before I feel an angel lift me up
And I open bloodshot eyes into fluorescent white
They flip the siren, hit the lights, close the doors and I am gone

Now I lay here owing my life to a stranger
And I realize that empty words are not enough
I'm left here with the question of just
What have I to show except the promises I never kept?
I lie here shaking on this bed, under the weight of my regrets

[Chorus:]
I hope that I will never let you down
I know that this can be more than just flashing lights and sound

Look around and you'll see that at times it feels like no one really cares
It gets me down but I'm still gonna try to do what's right, I know that there's
A difference between sleight of hand, and giving everything you have
There's a line drawn in the sand, I'm working up the will to cross it and

[Chorus]

Rhetoric can't raise the dead
I'm sick of always talking when there's no change
Rhetoric can't raise the dead
I'm sick of empty words, let's lead and not follow

Late night, brakes lock, hear the tires squeal
Red light, can't stop so I spin the wheel
My world goes black before I feel an angel steal me from the
Greedy jaws of death and chance, and pull me in with steady hands
They've given me a second chance, the artist in the ambulance

[Chorus]

Can we pick you off the ground, more than flashing lights and sound

Ah yes. I didn't look at the video but judging by the two first lines I believe this to be Artist In The Ambulance. It's cool you got out that situation alright man. Thrice are an extraordinary band and have always had a place close to my heart. Their new stuff is a bit hot an cold but I still love them. I've only seen them once, but it was one of the best gigs I've been to in my life.

thanks. and ive seen them once also! :-) ive been listening to them for about Three years now, theyre prob my 3rd fav band. i personally prefer their newer stuff. Beggars and their newest was great. but my favorite has to be The Alchemy Index, every song on it was so well done and Child of Dust and The Lion and The Wolf were just so insanely emotiomal. but, i personally like softer music. although when im drumming(im so glad i wasnt greatly injured, well i was and it took me about 6 months to get my drumming back, but anyways... i prefer to play harder music though, as in Dream Theater.) Its cool to find another fan though!

Wow never heard that song before but it's really great. I love the lyrics.
Im glad you're ok that's a pretty traumatizing thing to go through when youre 13 so im sorry you had to. Thats a great song to link to it though, expresses it really well!

That's pretty badass that you lived through it and then related to it....

But it is probably my least favorite Thrice song and even the band hates the song...lol

I've seen them 3 times. Last time was in October and Dustin basically jumped into the crowd next to me for the end of "To Awake and Avenge The Dead"....It's a shame they are done but I will certainly catch them on their last tour this spring!

Deadbolt, See you in the Shallows, Between the end and Where We Lie and Image of the Invisible. They are the ones with the most listens on my iTunes.

You know the cool thing about the song "Anthology" is that the lyrics are all made up of all Thirce lyrics.

Yeah I believe so. It's a bit unnerving when a band does that because it seems they're recapping on their past before they move on into different futures.

Which is what it was since Thrice will be no more after their next tour.

Like "Daedalus" was essentially part 2 of "The Melting Point of Wax".."Anthology" is part 2 of "In Years To Come"

Dustin wrote IYTC for his then new wife...Anthology is basically thanking her for putting up with 10 years of him basically being absent. It's why Thrice is calling it quits. Dustin and Teppei simply want to be parents to their young children and being in a rock band doesn't enable that.

Well... Thanks for making me want to cry! This is news I wasn't hoping to read any time soon at all. I understand perfectly what you mean; at this moment in time them being family men is what stands as paramount in their lives. I'm going to text to my acquaintance tomorrow because he literally worships Thrice.

I haven't listened them in a while, but now I'm going to have to find some tickets and get some tunes out. I really do hope I get one more chance to see them and I hope Dustin releases more of his solo stuff.

Yeah. Next tour is going to be tough.

Here was the announcement

Thrice is not breaking up. If nothing has broken us up by now, I doubt anything ever could.
However, we will be taking a break from being a full-time band, and the upcoming tour in the Spring will be the last one for the foreseeable future.
Playing music for the past 13 years with Riley, Ed, and Teppei has been such a gift. We have been able to see the world, share music with thousands and thousands of people, and make records with a variety of talented and inspiring people. The four of us have been through many highs and lows and overcome them together. I value their friendship, and it has been a great priviledge to play alongside them for so long. They are truly an amazingly gifted group of people, and the ways we’ve grown together as people and musicians has been a joy to experience.
Along the way we have adapted to many changing situations, especially the growing families of both Teppei and myself, but it has been harder and harder for me with each step. I have three little girls now under the age of 5, and it is a huge strain on my family and I when I’m away for several weeks at a time. The way we’ve been doing things for a while is simply not sustainable for me anymore.
I don’t know what the future looks like for Thrice, or for any of us individually. I do know that I would love to make more music in the future with them, as well as play some shows or short tours, but for the time being, I need to step out of the role of full time touring/recording musician, and will do so after this tour. I will continue to make music in various capacities I’m sure, and continue in my work as a Worship Director at Mars Hill Church in Orange County.
I know this will be very disappointing news to many people, and for that I am truly sorry. The amount of support and love we’ve been given in our career is staggering and overwhelming. I know I’m biased, but I think we have the best fans in the world.
This upcoming tour should be a lot of fun. We are planning for it to be somewhat of a celebration of the last 13 years and I’m sure we’ll be breaking out a bunch of songs that have been buried in the archives. I hope to see you out there to celebrate with us.
I never expected to be able to do any of this, let alone do it for 13 years, with such amazing bandmates, such gifted and hard working crew and management, and such incredible and loyal fans.
Thank you all.

That's such a bliss story. Really happy Dustin's happy. Didn't expect him directing worship music in a church, but that's his choice and I respect that.

But if he stands by why he says about them not going away forever, then I'm a happy person.
