View Full Version : The stereotypes you do and don't fit

Strangly, I'm unconsciously fitting more and more lesbian stereotypes as time goes on. While I was making up a more defined list, I thought it would be interesting to find out what other gays, lesbians, bisexuals, straights who are confused for gays, do and don't match up with as far as the stereotypes out there.

I love The L Word (I'm only on season two or three though, forgive me).
I also like Shane. Shane above all. Alice and Laura next though. And Bette sometimes.
I drive a Subaru Outback (http://www.cartalk.com/content/ultimate-gay-and-lesbian-cars-all-time) and I adore it. Slightly off-topic, my dream car until I got this one was a Volkswagon Beetle, which, on the same site, happens to be #2 on the gay cars.
I don't own Birkenstocks. But I want a pair.
I don't know exactly how many dates it took for me to move in with my girlfriend. I did move in quite early. But I had just broke the news to my husband and I didn't have anywhere else to go so...
I have a cat (my girlfriend has one too) and he is no less my son than an actual human son would be to me. His name is Mr. Mistoffelees.
Yes, I was abused. But it only has an affect on my sexuality and trust of men. It doesn't affect how girl-crazy I am.
Ellen is my Oprah.
I do listen to Tegan & Sara. But my dad's the one who's into Melissa Etheridge and Ani DiFranco. We're both big Tori Amos fans though, and I do know he has a few Tegan & Sara albums among his collection as well... so he likes more "lesbian" music than I do.
I dislike wearing make-up.
Vegetarian, natural/organic diet, animal rights, left-wing, eco-friendly, etc.

I can't put anything together for the life of me. Home improvement and cars are not my speciality.
I hate sports. So much. I'm definitely not athletic.
My hair is super long.
There definitely aren't just butch lesbians and lipstick lesbians. I couldn't even be described as partly butch but I'm somewhere in the middle. Chapstick lesbian, definitely. If my options are butch and femme though, it has to be femme.
And leading off of that, I'm in a relationship consisting of two femmes. Gasp. I'm the passive one and she's the dominant one though (best word choice I could come up with).

Well, I'm not gay but I care a whole lot about clothes. I like interior design, I think Tegan and Sarah are great.
I have a bulletin board in my room that I put really meaningful things on - the kinds of things that make me smile, y'know?
I've seen Brandi Carlile live, and she has a massive gay and lesbian following - as she is a lesbian herself.
I'm not afraid to wear Toms, but when I do wear them, I make sure they really go with the outfit that I'm wearing.
I make my mom ask for paper at supermarkets because its better for the environment.
I shop online every chance I get.
As much as I try not to be, I'm judgmental.
I love shoes. A lot.
For the most part I don't believe in God, which is very popular among gays.
I'm pretty emotional.
I advocate gay rights.

And to slather the icing on the cake, I usually always carry blistex in my pocket because it's really moisturizing and always gets rid of chapped lips lol

I don't know. I guess I fit some stereotypes.

I'm really obsessed with my clothes, but I don't really dress "gay". I just like wearing really unique t-shirts and making sure I look decent. I have a slight lisp, but not really the stereotypical one, just with my s's. I'm really into art and acting (not really good at either though :P), I'm a really emotional person but I'm not exactly a drama queen. I smoke marijuana, I've heard that drug use is a stereotype for gays. I'm also an atheist, which goes along with the whole "sinning heathen" impression that we give to some Christians. I like being the center of attention.

Really, I'm pretty damn masculine. I love hockey. I'm kind of that guy who, while it wouldn't be a complete shocker, most people don't think he's gay.

Stereotypes I don't fit:
