need advice from tobacco users

so i got a big bag of tobacco leaves, I have never used straight up tobacco before, so i'm wondering if this sounds safe to use

-it smells sweet
-it has little white things on it, what are these?
-i tasted some and it burned, is that normal?

Yes, it is safe to use. My guess, you have your hands on some Red Man's tobacco. Be careful now, it tastes worst than dip. MUCH worst. (Never liked it, seems like an acquired taste)
